Okay /mu/ so I'm trying to "rediscover" Black metal after taking a long respite from listening to it, and I would like some recommendations of more obscure practitioners of the genre. I have a preference for Cascadian Black metal and somewhat of a distaste for "war" metal.

I am familiar with all of the big names in Black metal, in both European and American scenes. I know of Xasthur, Leviathan, Ulver, Hateforest, Panopticon, Skagos, Lifelover, WITTR, Defheaven (however you spell it), Liturgy, Altar of Plagues, Alcest, Woods of Ypres, and whatever else shows up on the front page of sub-subgenres of black metal on last.fm

Basically, I'm looking for "third level" black metal artists that are not on the /mu/ charts.

Anyone else can ask for recs.

Pic related: The type of BM I'm looking for. Less "kvlt" and more atmospheric.

The US actually started to make Black metal innovative and open the door to outside influences within the genre. American bands also tend to be extremely distinguishable and have authentic sounds.

Norwegian Black metal is all the exact same shit just copied over and over again, and this stubborn adherence to a single sound seems to have spread with the music to European bm artists in general.

But, Autists will of course always prefer the same thing over and over again as opposed to a wide variety of unique choices.

Logo is fine, that name though... How do I pronounce that?

Logos in general aren't very important anymore aside from being a stamp on your Metal Archives page.

A lot of bands are just using artwork as album covers these days as it is better looking and you don't need your album to be recognizable because of the digital age. You'll probably never have an album on the shelves in a music store

Welcome to metal.

I'm still into black metal, mostly the pioneers of the first and second waves, but I grew out of the metalhead thing and my life improved a fuckton. The problem is that metalheads refuse to talk to me because I dress well and think I'm not true enough despite knowing more than most of them when it comes to metal.

The point of my story is that I think a lot of people react bad to metal fans because they're secretly scared or in a way wish they could understand it and belong to something or maybe even because their parents and peers wouldn't accept them, maybe like a closet homosexual, but in this case the guy laughed at me and gave me shit despite him turning into what I was as a young teen but instead he's in his 20s now and looks even more ridiculous.

Sorry for the sloppy writing, it's almost 4:30AM here and I can't even see clearly, but hopefully you get what I mean.

Metal is interesting in its community. A vast majority of them are really friendly and amicable albeit smelly and hairy. I don't really like metal all that much, I'm more of a hip hop fan. But my one metalhead friend is far more pleasant to talk to and be around than the friends of mine that listen to hip hop. I haven't come across those metal elitists myself so my view may be skewed a bit.
