They should definitely rerecord/perform live songs from their Enigma days. There's some decent stuff there ruined by horrid production and cocaine addiction

I don't care what anyone says, 'Shout' is underrated as fuck.

With that said, anything post-Shout is not very good. Basically if you take all of the best songs from Total Devo, Smooth Noodle Maps and Something For Everybody, you'd have one great album from middle period Devo.

OR, if you take the best songs from SFE and the best songs from the Something Else For Everybody compilation, you'd have an album that would kick Total Devo and Smooth Noodle Maps' ass.

I have a feeling that they are beginning to resent performing that song wherever they go. Half the time Jerry, introduces the song.
> "It's 20xx, and we're here to whip it once again."
and they play it at warp speed to get it over with.

I would love for some more Duty Now material

I remember as a little project a few years ago. I did just that taking the best songs from Shout, Total Devo, and SNM and it was like 80% Shout, 15% SNM, and 5% Total Devo

I've never heard anybody compare similarties between Devo and Zappa aside from a Rolling Stone review for Duty Now for the Future where the reviewer called "Strange Pursuit", a "re-hash of Zappa guitar riffs", or something along the line of that

In regards to 'Whip it', If you haven't noticed, Jerry is basically the Paul McCartney of Devo...Mark is John in the sense that Mark doesn't give a damn about Devo anymore while Jerry wants to keep the band going despite no one getting along anymore.

Yup. I've grown to like the live version of Baby Doll from Now It Can Be Told. That compilation was to me, the unreleased second Jihad jerry album. There's some good stuff on there. Throw Money at the Problem is one of the best songs they've written since Shout was released

>>44172729
Yeah, Mark has seemed to have really phoned in the performances after the main SFE tour, and just looks bored.

>> No.44173960

>>44173718
Exactly, its definitely Jerry's songs on that compilation. There's some gems in there, that coupled with the good tracks from SFE, they could've had a really good album.

You're right, after the main tour for SFE, he has just looked like he's phoning it in. He likes making music for Lexus a lot more hehe.

Although the last time I saw Devo, last year in LA, they put on a pretty good show. They even resurrected Jerkin' Back 'n' Forth!

>> No.44174252

>>44173960
Man I'm still pissed I missed that LA Natural History Museum. One of my favorite Nu-Tra songs, too

Personally, I would rearrange SFE like this.
1.Watch us Work It
2. Fresh
3. Throw Money at the Problem
4. What We Do
5. Shoulda Said yes
6. Don't Shoot
7. Message of Hope
8. Mind Games
9. Human Rocket
10. Later is Now

It has that Oh, No! It's Devo level of non-stop synth pop, with the guitars pop in here and there, and Nu-tra level lyrical awareness.

>> No.44174515

>>44174252

I like your track list but I would take out 'Human Rocket', and add a few more tracks from Something Else For Everybody.

>> No.44174626

>>44174252
Fuck I haven't slept for days, Iforgot a bunch words here and there.

Anywho, the reasoning behind the acsense of Step Up, Please Baby please, and Cameo. Novelty songs that subtracted the irony, and replaced it with just WACKYLULZRANDOM, (The Day My Baby Gave me a Surprize, Peek-a-boo, Speed Racer are songs where they have done songs like these way better)

No Place Like Home is really, really out of place, the lyrics do not fit in, and Later Is Now has the same message, but it's done way better as it sticks better with the Devo motif.

Sumthin' sucks.

March On also sucks.

Well im off for the night

>> No.44174759

>>44174515
Human Rocket is one of my faves from the album. I'm surprised that they didn't do that song live as it just seems like one of the songs to pump up the crowd
okayseriousl i'm done need to catch up on my beauty sleep

>> No.44174773

>>44174626
I agree with you except for 'March On', that one has the same vibe as Later is now and No place like home. Which is probably why they're the last 3 songs on SFE ha.

Step up, Please baby please, Cameo, and Sumthin', and to a lesser extent Human rocket, are pretty damn mediocre.

>> No.44174828

>>44174759
It is super catchy/dancey but I think the intentional autotune always turns me off and the lyrics are generic as hell...we know Mark can lyrically write better than that aha.

Yeah, I was disappointed they didn't at least play some other songs off of SFE live. They always just play the same 3 they toured with at the beginning.

Night Anon.

>> No.44175003

>>44174828
I think it's supposed to be robotic and simple with the added autone to push the point forward, but they've done it way better mechanical man pretty much perfected it.

Hell, didn't jerry at the beginning of the tour say it was goig to be mostly SFE material? I wouldn't mind trading out Fresh, or Don't shoot for Human Rocket, or Throw Money, but then again that Fresh-That's good transition is too perfect
I'm serious now. i'm sleeping now. night, anon-kun

>> No.44175092

>>44175003
I'm just going to keep replying until you stop ha.

But yes, Jerry did say in an interview that the tour would have at least 4 songs from SFE in the set list. At this point I'd gladly welcome Human Rocket live over any of the three from SFE that they play live.
