So, /mu/, I need a pair of headphones with good fidelity for gaming and music purposes. Portability isn't my first concern, price range up to ~$350.

I bet you don't even need headphones. Daddy not paying much attention to you lately?

I have no idea how old/accurate this guide is. Not that /mu/ is necessarily going to be more accurate, but corroboration helps.

Bump.

This is my personal recommendation based on personal experience:

1. More gaming than music

Get a Sennheiser HD 598 and a modmic.

2. More music than gaming

Sennhesier HD650's.

3. More music than gaming with a punchier detailed sound and the added bonus of being a speshul snowflake with modded cans

Alessandro MS1000's.

Any reason to buy those instead of the Beyerdynamic DT 880? The 880 seems to be cheaper than the Sennheisers with better/the same audio response graph.

personal preference probably, just remember if you get the 880s you will need a headphone amp to get the most sound out of them, depending on how many ohms they can output

i have the 770s and i love them, comfy as fuck and they sound a little too bassy but i dont mind at all.

headphone amp i have is the fiio e9

the fiio e7 will work just as well though.

>>43786831
if the dt880 come in a 32 ohm version, do you really need an amp for that?

i don't understand what you mean. i don't know about this stuff. is something wrong with 32 ohm headphones?

>>43787640
you just wont have enough power, it's better to not skimp on audio

if the phones are out of your pricerange it might be wise to move to a lower range and get some phones that are in that price range

>>43787640
Btw, this person is not me. I've decided on either the DT880s or the HD650s and will make the final choice on my own based on amps I can find.

im the guy who recommended the dt 880s
>>43788597
those grados headphones are sexy as fuck and if i had money for a second pair of phones i would get those

the sr60i's that is

>> No.43788979

>>43788750

SR60i's are amazing for their pricerange but you really have to dish out more for truly decent cans.

Anyway, I have a pair of Alessandro MS1's (equivalent to the Grado SR80 or SR100 depending on who you ask) modded with a distancer and Grado PS1000 pads, and they sound incredible. I use them unamped but am considering getting an amp - listened to the new Silver Mt. Zion album and realized it wasn't nearly loud and clear enough.

>> No.43789094

I have a pair of Grado SR80i and they really are fantastic for the price.

>> No.43789204

>>43789094

If you listen to electronic / prog rock / post-rock / anything that could benefit from a wider soundstage and more recessed highs, I strongly recommend looking at the MS1000 mod. I did it to my Alessandro MS1i's (identical to your SR80i's) and have been in love with them since.

Also, do you use an amp?

>> No.43789414

>>43789204
I usually use them through my stereo receiver but they sound okay through my iPod too. I'm still considering getting an amp though for the iPod. I also have AKG K240s which have a better soundstage but not quite as good sound as the Grados.

>> No.43789523

>>43789414

>K240's

They were my second choice after my MS1i's, glad I went for the Grado option in the end.
