Who's you favourate guitarist /mu/?
They don't necessarily have to be the best, maybe they influence you or something.

OP, got any tips for making harmonics on a really shitty marshall?

I like Protest the Hero's guitarist. The lead guitar parts always feel like they go somewhere on their own while simultaneously blending in with the rest of the song.

Nick Drake or Jackson C. Frank. I like their minimalist plucking styles, they're kinda similar, tthough Frank definitely does a bit more bluesy strummy-like stuff.

His droning country sound is what made me want to go electric.

Im assuming you mean harmonics as in squealies, pretty sure they rely more on technique then on the amp or guitar.
You just gotta find that sweet spot on the bridge.

Other then that I guess you should use a fair amount of gain, distortion and vibrato the fuck out of it

Doesn't he play extremely well live? too bad I dislike LoG's new material

anyways my favorite is probably Wata for her riffs or Stephen O'Malley for what he has done

This guy right here. I think buckethead is the best guitarist and he inuences my playing more than any other musician. His shredding and his overall playing and songwriting is all off the charts.

The only advice I can really think of is really bending the shit out of the note, and then some, to really exaggerate the sound

frusciante(solo technique) or greenwood(guitar raping) or jimmy page(composition)

Mark Morton is actually pretty good. I'm not a big fan of LOG, but I respect him, he has that bluesy feel to his writing.

As far as metal goes, Jesper Stromblad for me. Say what you will about In Flames and their last 10 years, but that man can write melodies like no one else. Really musical shit.

Come Clarity is my favorite modern metal album, but that doesn't say much.

Clayman is way better, and TJR is the ultimate melodeath record as far as lead guitars go.
