are there any artists similar to radioactivität electronic-era Kraftwerk?

>> No.43388654

On this topic, I have an interdasting question for /mu/:

So, considering that 'electronic' isn't a genre... what is early-era Kraftwerk stuff referred to? A lot of their work is synthpop, but it's simply not fair to write off Autobahn, Radioactivität, Trans-Europa Express or Computerwelt as synthpop. I don't think it's techno, and it's certainly not house. It's not IDM. Some people might call them industrial, but not in the traditional sense.

Since I've had it hammered into me by /mu/ that "electronic isn't a genre" - how do you classify this stuff?

electronic is a genre, just vague
synthpop is a pretty good descripter, but not for all of those albums

They're sometimes considered Krautrock even though they sound nothing like the majority of it.

Try Cluster, Tangerine Dream, Brian Eno, Neu! Klaus Shultz.

synthpop is fine for trans europe express, man machine, and computerwelt i think. progressive electronic or krautrock are also used often.

You're missing the point a bit. I'm not personally saying electronic isn't a genre. I'm calling out /mu/ autists who consistently spout this statement and asking them to categorise this by whatever unnecessary electronic subgenre they can pull out of their ass. Otherwise I'm genuinely interested to see if there's a specific subgenre for the Kraftwerk sound.

I'd be happy to call it all 'electronic' myself though.

TEE is a bit industrial, a bit synth-pop and a bit Techno

Autobahn is a bit Krautroc, a bit Synth-pop, a bit berlin school

Electro is a type of Electronic music

Characterized by funky bass lines, drum machines, clicks and zaps, funky drum patterns, staccato/stabbing synths and usually quite bouncy

there are a tonne of very clear differences

House is typically slower than Techno
House utilizes more samples than Techno
House is usually more grounded and Techno is more spacey
House is warmer Techno is cold and sterile
Techno is typically more experimental and cerebral and House is typically more club-friendly

It's kind of hard to find that same sound that Kraftwerk has. Most of the stuff you see from that time period doesn't have the same style of melody.

I can suggest The Strange World of Bernard Fevre though. It's not exactly as robotic as The Man Machine nor as spacious as Autobahn. Think more along the lines of 1975 mixed with moog and science fiction.

Fantasm

The record itself is very hard to find, and I've only found bits and pieces on Youtube. Bernard Fevre remixed/remastered the tracks in 2009 and released them as The Strange New World of Bernard Fevre under his Black Devil Disco Club project.

These are from the 2009 remix/remaster.

The music video for Molecule Dance is especially good.

This playlist also has more of his older stuff, most of it is extremely hard to find due to a lot of it being library music.
