How come there's never any straight up guitar music in the soundcloud threads? I want some inspiration for what to write on my own guitar, but what I mostly I see are bleep bloops and rap..

I just want to get ideas for songs that a beginner could do. I can't see myself re-creating the atmosphere of my favorite bands like Joy Division, Sun Devoured Earth, and Have a Nice Life.

If I was trying to rip off an artist I would steal riffs. I would already have written a song if I wanted to steal riffs from all my favorite bands. I'm more trying to get an idea of basic song structure, effects, simple techniques I could incorporate into my own music if I can ever actually get a song going. I don't know how I'll ever write a song with just my guitar, and FL studio and make it into a rock song.

well from what you just said, you can get that from just about any song on youtube, why does it being made from a /mu/tant differentiate from it being made from cold play or red hot chili peppers or joy division or whatever genre you want to play?

What makes you the guru of what's the correct way to write a song?

Look buddy, I want to look at people's work that has noticeable flaws, poor playing style, and extremely basic song structure, that way when I make something of my own I can say "well at least my work is better than that guy's in some way".

You should just focus on making music that you like, not necessarily music that's simple just because you're a beginner. If you want to make simple music, cool, but don't try and force it then quantitatively analyze how it's better or worse than someone else's. More than likely complexity will come with time, so just write what you like and go from there.

>> No.42451277

how am I going to even begin to write music if I'm always discouraged by raising my expectations for what my music should sound like to such heights? How can I even get a sense of how it's done if I don't even know where to start? I want to get an idea of what other people are doing so I can get an idea of what I can do. So far I haven't made anything because I don't even know how to get started.

>I don't even know how to get started.
Well, neither did I, but that's due to a lack of discipline.
If you turn off your PC, sit down with your instrument, a notebook and a pen, you will see how it comes to you.
But distracting yourself with 4chan and the like you're never gonna get said inspiration.

>> No.42451340

>>42451313
this dude said it.

sit down and make something cool, thats the only way. if you get an idea, act on it.

if you really want this, you will put the time in. if its not in you, you won't. simple as that. nobody can tell you what to do, thats the fun of it.

>> No.42451356

>>42451313
I'm not distracting myself with 4chan. I'm trying to find some guidance, I want there to be a sign that shows me where to begin. I literally sat in front of FL studio all morning listening to my favorite songs, feeling discouraged as hell. I feel so lost.

>> No.42451430

>>42451356
I am going to be straight up with you, you will never get anywhere in music always expecting some form of "guidance" or xpecting someone to hold your hand through the process. If you really want to learn you will find a way to learn. When I got my first guitar the first thing I did was go on google and tried to learn as much as I could about reading tabs and everything went on from there.

This.

>>42451356
You've got a fucking limitless canvas OP.
You don't really need to know where to start.
You can make some parts, write some ideas then stitch them together.
But as I said, if you keep asking us in 4chan how to start writing your music instead of asking yourself how to start writing YOUR music, you're either not disciplined enough or not creative enough.

It's your music. Yours.

>>42451394
You can buy a pentagram notebook or whatever the hell. Or just draw the lines yourself.

Do this for fun: write a bad song on purpose, then do something else for an hour. Come back to it and figure out one thing you can do to make it better. Do that, then go do something else. Repeat until either inspiration strikes and you make a song you like or you're happy with what you've come up with, whether that be a quality song or you think it's funny, or anything else. Just write without worrying about if it's a masterpiece or not.

>> No.42451522

>>42451340
This. It's how I made >>42450746 and basically everything else, ever. Just noodle on the guitar until you find something, then memorize that thing (important, because ideas go away really fucking fast) and elaborate on it. Expound the idea and you could end up with something nice that you like. Rinse and repeat, because every time you'll be better than you were before.

Trying to make a song for me is like a caveman trying to discover how to rub two sticks together to make fire. You don't just decide, hey I think I'll create friction and heat with this method without actually knowing what friction and heat is. I don't want people to tell me how to write my songs, I want to get ideas of how to write my own songs. Right now, all I have is FL studio, guitar pro, garage band (I use as my guitar amplifier), and that's it. I don't know how people put their thoughts for a song down. I could be doing it in an entirely inefficient way and not even realize it. I want to start from the bottom and work my way up. I want to hear simple music, so that way I can understand everything aspect of what's going on in the song. Not just be perplexed and discouraged by masterpieces.

1.Download a multi-track recording program

2. Lay down a bassline/rhythm (over a drum rhythm preferrably but its not essential)

- 4 chords, strummed 4 times. Do this 4 times. Make sure they're in key (chord key chards are all over the internet)

3. Play the same 4 chords only hit each note of the chord individually, like an arpeggio.

Record all this and then repeat the process in order to make a chorus. A chorus should have different chords to the verse.

go verse - chorus - verse - choruse - verse - chorus and then end the song.

Do this 4 times a day.
