I would like to rec an album, "Jormugand" by Helheim. A great Norwegian album of very well crafted and somewhat melodic black metal that has gone unnoticed probably because it came out a bit late and doesn't seem all that special on the surface. Once you give it a few spins you'll grow to love it.

This is so good, why have I not heard this before?

I've decided to start this month with a dubious choice by listening to Deafheaven for the second time, as I type this. Context: I like some metal, mainly sludge and doom, but I know very little in the way of black metal albums, I've listened to and liked Filosofem and Deathcrush (and Daudi Baldrs lol) and that's about it for me.

So what's interesting or likeable about this album? It didn't stay with me the first time and it's still not grabbing me at all. Instrumentals sound lacking or not fully developed, production doesn't exactly blow me away, vocals are annoying and sound tacked-on. It's actually a lot less listenable or even experimental than the trve shit I've heard. So why do so many people rate it?

What album surprised you the most in a good way this NBBMN?

For me it has to be Simple Existenz - Das Leben vor dem Tod. Soloproject from the bassist of Nagelfar, they play a mix of Black Metal and Rock Music with mostly clean vocals that works surprisingly well.

Well it really depends. 'vom' is used 99 out of 100 times, only legal texts or poems use 'von dem'. Same with 'im' and 'in dem'. 'vorm' on the other hand is much more informal. Newspapers use 'vor dem' in most cases.
