Dear /mu/, /lit/ here,

I am trying to improve my reading speed and, odd as it may sound, I require landscape/nature sounds to suppress subvocalization.

By "landscape sounds" I mean, for example, the rustling of leaves in a dense forest, the sound of waves reaching a beach, the calm of a medow with occasional bird chirping, the crackling of ice floes.

Do you know of any artists that have created works mostly including this, preferably works that are longer (10 minutes and more).

>that thing where you say the words you read in your head is called subvocalization?
Correct.

Subvocalization is something that everyone does, because it's part of early child development and greatly helps in learning one's mother tongue.
However, if you are an adult and sufficiently knowledgeable in grammar and vocabulary of a language, it is no longer necessary and actually rather hinders you in understanding and reading fast, because it takes a lot of time and reading slow allows your mind to wander.

An easy way to repress subvocalization is simply reading faster and using your fingers to guide your eyes, for example by setting your finger next to the line or under the word you are reading.
Now, this may sound a bit childish, because you've probably been taught NOT to use your fingers when reading, but it actually works, because guiding your eyes prevents regression (or "jumping back"), and if you've done it for some time and become more proficient in reading fast, you will be able to stop using your fingers again.

...which you probably should.

Field recordings are not music. I have no problem with them being discussed on /mu/ but pretending it's music is just silly. It doesn't fit the perceived definition of music. It's not orchestrated sound created by man except for speeches, and while you could argue that speeches involve getting your message across is an emotionally appealing, catchy way, at the end the primary purpose is still to deliver a clear message.

If we're going to use "music" as a synonym for "sound" what's the point of having the word "music" in the first place?

>You're not "making" the sequences of sound.
You are limiting the sequences of sound. You are orchestrating a start and an end point.
Especially if you played two recordings, one after the other, it'd obviously be orchestrated. This becomes more apparent if you decrease the size of units of recordings (instead of 10 minutes of sounds of leaves, one wind gush of five seconds) and increase the number of recordings played after each other (six of them creating a rythm).
