So i'm going to be buying my first guitar with a floyd rose soon. anything I need to know? I know the way you put strings on is a different process but I don't know what that is exactly.

I do want a hollow body at some point, but for a band I'm potentially forming I need something with a long neck that can be tuned low. I'd love an eastman or one ibanez's hollowbodies when I get better at jazz though.

why do you want the floyd rose? many guitars have great intonation and can be tuned low without them.

Prepare for fucking agony. It takes 15 fucking minutes just to tune the bloody things. Sometimes it requires having to tune it through the springs in the back, other times the headstock is all you need, and then other times the fine tuners are the saviour of the universe; all while having to keep the thing at point zero. It's also terrible to balance if you use hybrid string gauges.

If you do decide to go Floyd way, you might wanna consider blocking the bridge; otherwise, you could look at something like what I got, http://www.ibanez.co.jp/products/eg_page13.php?area_id=2&data_id=66&color=CL01&year=2013&cat_id=1&series_id=147

string change: loosen locking nuts, detune strings loose, set fine tuners halfway, cut strings at first fret, loosen locking bridge pins, remove strings, spin tuners straight, feed strings thru tuners under string tree, cut ~1.5" past bridge pin hole, insert strings in bridge, tighten bridge pins, tune guitar low->high several times, tighten locking nuts

it's super easy

(write it down)

shredding is neat and all, but even on piano you hear plenty of pianist who just write the same epic piece with a lot of arpeggios( if that's what pianist refer to them as) over the chords. what it comes down to me is if it sounded good. some people just shred to shred and impress, some people can pick up a guitar that hasnt had the strings changed in ten years and a tape recorder and record something that sounds awesome
