| >> | No.39865842 >>39865647 last.fm is not really accurate because os some reasons a guy that just listen to one track from artist, but listen to it alot, means the same that a guys that listen to various tracks form the artist but with a little less listens. you can't "hate stuff": the guys that love lady gaga but hate briney spears means nothing to lady gaga recommendation.
its biased toward what people know. lets say iron maiden is 1% similar to nirnava, that means that 1% of the guys that like iron maiden and also know that nirvana exist, will like nirvana too. Now imagine a nother metal band that is 80% similar to iron maiden. now imagine that 100000 that like iron maiden know nirvana, this means 1000 iron maiden listeners liking nirvana. Now, imagine that 100 guys that like iron maiden know the other metal band, 80 guys that like iron maiden will like the other band. This kind of popularity thing mess with the recommendations, on profiles of mainstream post-grunge artists from brazil, you have country like artists from brazil as recommendation. Something that would help to fix this problem would be including some sort of hate system (dont know how this would be possible with last.fm). Another thing that would help to fix that, would be to make the amount of bands a user know influence the recommendation system |
