perhaps because, in general, mainstream and popular music is disliked around here and as such people would prefer discussion of such music to be held elsewhere
It's because a lot of music that is popular or "mainstream" nowadays seems mass-produced and uninspired. Not saying there isn't any good music at all that is popular, after all it all comes down to personal taste and choice.
