>ITT: Bands that should never regroup or release another album ever again.
MBV should've never regroup or released that fucking abomination of an album. They're just tarnishing their legacy.Same with GY!BE and 'Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend!, same with Radiohead and The King of Limbs, just disband already, or stop making albums, you've released enough of good material already and you're not capable of making good music anymore, it's time to quit.Boris also. Continue touring, but stop releasing mediocre or worse than mediocre shit.
>>37729236i think i'd bone wata, she's so tiny

>>37729583i'd wear something like that
...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead - only one good album lel
>>37729691it's a great shirt, they made it from a very nice, light and stretchy material that makes it super comfy and I've even met GY!BE fans from it.
>>37729670Raw Power, Fun House and Iggy's The Idiot were the only good things related to The Stooges.
>>37729746where can i get it? do i have to buy the album?
>>37729236I've never listened to Boris, but the other 3 released perfectly fine albums, although TKOL is a bit spotty for its place in RH's discography. Kind of hard to follow up In Rainbows, though. Allelujah and m b v are great.
The Seer was garbage and fucking boring.>b-but MUH EPIK MONOLITHIC DRONING AND TEXTURES OF NOISE LE GREAT WALLS OF SOUND SO IMMERSED IN IT IF YOU FIND IT BORING YOUR A PLEB XDKill yourselves.
>>37729705They could be worse. Way worse. At least they're not total shit.
>>37729438No they weren't. Those were fucking awful albums, should've just remained quiet about releasing new material and never released anything new again. Instead we got shit albums in otherwise their perfect discographies.
>>37729832I finally got around to it recently. I thought I was going to hate it after how dreadfully boring My Father was, but I found The Seer to be on par with Soundtracks. Shit was a lot better than I expected it to be.
>>37729870Agreed, TMV should have never happened.
>>37729832I liked The Seer, it wasn't perfect or anything, it was only about a 6.5/10 for me. But I liked how Michael Gira was able to combine his more matured song writing techniques from his folk-rock oriented side projects with Swans' reputation for noisy soundscapes. Also, you don't have to be a dick about it.
I really hate to say it, but probably the Chili Peppers.
The Mars Volta
>>37729873oh shut up, they were okay>>37729832fuck you, the seer as great.>>37729908TMV are fantastic>>37729937nah. noctourniquet was ace. they could have put out some more quality material (plus more el groupo nueve)
>Faith No More
>>37729873Why were they awful? In m b v's case, they started playing around with the Loveless sound. Loveless was all about the sound, but the songs themselves weren't that adventurous for the most part. They had a chance to improve on that, and I think they did. It certainly had more variety, which I think was an appropriate way to follow up Loveless. As for ADBA, the short, droney songs were okay, but the long compositions were excellent; We Drift Like Worried Fire in particular was amazing.
You guys are retarded."Legacies" don't mean shit. Releasing a bad album now doesn't make me enjoy previous work less. I wish every single broken up band would make new music. Why? Because at best, we get good music by bands we like. At worst? It's bad and we just go back listening to their old stuff which is unchanged.
Not completely relevant, because they're still releasing albums, but Mercury Rev needs to stop making albums. They sound so boring now, it's almost unreal. All is Dream was terrible, and it's just been downhill from there, you can't even call them psychedelic rock anymore. It sucks because they used to sound so unique, but now they make some of the most snooze-inducing alt rock in existence.
The fact that the "Pixies" are back together without Kim Deal is fucking retarded.
>>37729885>I found The Seer to be on par with SoundtracksNo.
>>37729870I'd be okay with infinite ATDI regroupings
I don't want to say it, but The Cure. I like most of their post-Disintegration material, even their self-titled, but 4:13 Dream might be a sign to pack it up.
>>37730068Okay.
>>37729966>noctourniquet>not the album where the guy injects rat poison and morphine into himself and is dying
>>37730056They aren't going to release anything tho
Has a band ever reformed and made an album better/up to par with their pre-break up work?
>>37730123Deloused was just okay.
>>37729981not that guy but droney songs were unnecessary imo, it would have been a great EP without them, but it seems like they wanted to make an album even though they didnt have enough material so they just came up with random shit
>>37730124They just released a new single and a few sources have confirmed it's going to be from their new album. That's while Deal left, she didn't think they should make a new album
>>37730135I personally think that m b v is better than anything that isn't Loveless, but that's just me.

>>37730179Boces was still with Baker, but I still think that their albums up to Deserter's Songs were pretty average. Not as terrible as the shit they make now, at least.

>>37730351>trying to make rock into Jazz is beyond gay
>>37730333Sorry, but nothing will ever top You're Living All Over Me :)
>>37730346Yeah, the guy was fucking insane and the rest of Mercury Rev was terrified of him. Still, the crazy ones always seem to make the best music.
>>37730270MBV releasing a follow-up to Loveless kind of was a big deal, actually. The fact that the band didn't treat it like a big deal probably diminished its impact, but if you think about it that's probably the best thing they could've done. They actually didn't set out for a Loveless 2, instead opting to release an album they probably would've released in 1993. I respect them for that.
>>37730384YLAOM has 5 amazing songs, but the rest of the album isnt that goodso its really a god-tier EP if u ask me
>>37730407I just don't give a shit about that band.
>>37729400agree>>37729832pff you'd change your opinion if you saw them live
The Smiths
System of a Down.
>>37729519I really hope that Interpol makes a "back to their roots" album and gets rid of the strings and horn sections, it would probably be pretty good.
>>37730247If The Cure went full-on electronic with Disintegration-esque riffs on top of that...that could be interesting. That could be really good.
IsisThey released four great albums in a row, their sound evolved over the years, and I'm glad they knew when to call it quits. Shame Neurosis are still existing and putting out mediocre releases.
>>37730478Johnny marr should tour with modest mouse again
>>37730388Also, on a slightly unrelated note, Baker on stage was fucking hilarious.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPQp_7U_4KQ&feature=related

>>37730447Then that's just you. Don't say "no one" gives a shit about them. Makes you sound self-important.
>>37730500you mean five great albums in a row. celestial is dope as fuckyeah i'm glad they didn't keep going. it's pretty laudable

>>37730439Don't forget Poledo, the worst piece of shit ever.I hate it when they do something like that, like Sonic Youth with Providence, fucking filler garbage.
>>37730610he was always fat
Journey
>>37730485They lost Carlos. They will never be as good. Bands fuck up their chemistry in ways they don't even think exist when they switch members. The think a bass player is replaceable or a better drummer can be brought in, but they can never achieve the same chemistry.
>>37730627lel
>>37730709Nah, they got that Mexican now, they doin aight.
King CrimsonHoly fuck, just get a heart attack and die already Robert Fripp, no one is interested in your tedious, unimaginative and uncreative progressive rock wankfest anymore.

>>37730352nuh bruh, the two singles from it were ace
>>37729300Wait when did they break up?
>>37731842they never did but this thread is not only about reuniting but also who should just stop making music
>>37729236I agree on Radiohead, after Hail to the Thief they should've just given up. It was obviously the end. Other points made are retarded.
>>37729705I think the primary reason I don't take Pitchfork seriously is the way they treated Trail of Dead. They built them up to unbelievable levels after Source Tags, and then preceded to savage them on every subsequent review for failing to single-handedly "save rock music".Sure, Worlds Apart or So Divided weren't as good as SC&T, but they were still pretty solid. As was Century of the Self.Granted the rest is rubbish, but I still feel bad for them. What makes it worse is that they've failed to do it consistently to bands who're hailed as saviours that then fail to live up to expectations (Arcade Fire, Titus Andro, Death Grips).
>>37731875Ah. I see.Well then >>37729300 can just shutup.
>>37731913In Rainbows is when they finally perfected their fusion of electronic and rock. That said, they have pretty much nowhere else to go. Not without re-tooling their sound Kid A style again.
Pixies
>>37732088>In Rainbows is when they finally perfected their fusion of electronic and rockI think they perfected it on Amnesiac. If anything In Rainbows was a regression back into an alt rock sensibility. Not in a negative sense, I think it's a great record, but they really dialed back the electronic aspect.

Radiohead should make an album like Pablo Honey again. Maybe I would like it and all of you faggots would rip on it for being "too loud and violent". Fuck you Radiohead fans that think Kid A is the peak of musical art. You don't know shit.Genesis - Invisible Touch is the peak of modern art in the last 30 years. Nothing will ever come close. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums.
