One of her most memorable songs for me from Ys was Cosmia, and it's mainly because it was very basic in relation to most of the other work on that album. The thing that levels the playing field is that HOOM is more powerful, a lot more, but with gaps in emotion progression from song-to-song and that it feels underdeveloped in some songs. The best songs on HOOM are probably better than Ys, at least for me, but the worst were also much worst. she does that to project feg. She has this habit of singing with her mouth to the side of her face because she had to project towards the audience and not to the massive harp in front of her.

To be fair Ys is pretty folk
It has banjo and jawharp

I agree with this mostly. I think it depends on what you mean by which is 'best'. I could definitely see the argument that as a creative work Ys is better executed, but to me HOOM just has so much more to it - in length and in depth. True, not even song stands alone as stellar as they do on Ys, but if I could only take one to a desert island I would have to take HOOM.

I think there's this conception that Andy makes really shallow music and that it is highly unlikely that he fully appreciates everything Joanna does with her music. There's also the feeling that Joanna could do a lot better. Not to mention I should be fucking her not him

The reason Ys comes out on top for me most of the time is because it seems like a more concise and cohesive effort, not only on a song-by-song basis, but what she wanted the album specifically to sound like and what direction she wanted to take with the songwriting style. The trade-off there is that there is less variation because of the huge lengths of most songs on the album and the fact that it has so few songs. I guess my explanation is that I prefer albums that sound more like singular units instead of a compilation of ideas; that's what HOOM felt like to me at various points on the album.
