Why people are letting reviews of random music critics effect their opinion about certain albums?

Cant you have YOUR OWN OPINIONS, instead of having the opinions of random music critics?

If one of those critics will review your favorite food, and will rate it 1/10, will you start hating that food? WTF. GET YOUR OWN OPINIONS

Not my first day.

Its just that people who say "i will decide what is my opinion about this album after ill see the ratings it got at various sites" really annoy me.

I agree OP, I hate it when people let someone else's opinion become theirs

>> No.37095526

I have my own opinions. But I also don't read album reviews.

I don't think that even the people who do read reviews usually let it affect their opinions, short of giving listens to high-rated albums. It's mostly just bragging rights when your favorite album gets a high critical score.

I respect your opinion, but for me,
TH is a 10/10 classic and is far from being boring. i can literally listen to it all day and i wont get bored.

I wouldn't say I let music reviewers change my opinion, because they don't. I use music reviewers as a guide. If music reviewers say an album is good, maybe I'll check it out and form my own opinion about it. Sometimes I end up agreeing with the reviewer, sometimes not.

I don't understand the individualistic mindset some people have when it comes to reading criticism. You'd never hear of a student of classical music refusing to look at their history textbook for fear of being brainwashed into liking something or other. The entire notion is silly.

You only encounter it in people who listen to pop music. I can only assume it's an overcompensation for an insecurity. Like, they know that the main basis of their preferences is social or other conditioned behavior, and by refusing to read reviews they can push the cognitive dissonance out and will themselves back into believing they're special snowflakes.

Bottom line: if you don't read music criticism (and criticism and "reviews" are separate, as one is corporate-sponsored and the other us academic) you are more ignorant than someone who does.

I bet if a lot of people who don't know how to play music learned then they would stop caring as much about bullshit.
