Can we have a discussion about this album?I think it's the best since lullabies.
bump
>>36959081>tfw Lullabies could have been perfect if they just had taken out Everybody Knows You're Insane
>>36959081I just bought this album and I still haven't heard their self titled or Era Vulgaris, should I listen to the other two first or just skip to Like Clockwork? I have all their albums btw.
It appears I am the only one here who prefers Era Vulgaris.
>>36959128>buying music
>>36959144It's is my favorite too, with s/t as a close second.
>>36959150>not buying musicI'm so sorry you're poor, I'm rich as fuck.
What are the tracks with Trent and Elton on it? I assume fairweather friends?
>>36959327Elton is on Fairweather, Trent is on Kalopsia but might be also on some others as well.
>>36959361Thanks bruh.
>>36959374Also F/F
>>36959128self titled is essential, era vulgaris not so much
The best thing about the new album is you can't tell there's guests on it. I hate tacked on appearances.
>>36959448Agreed.Josh said in a interview with KROQ (I think) that they "aren't a hiphop band, hence make no 'featuring Elton John' bullshit with a spotlight moment". Also Elton approached them, saying they don't even have a queen in the band.
>>36959116WHATThat song is incredibly good, mate. Lullabies is perfect as it is. None of the songs feel like fillers.
>>36959144>>36959185We're three
>>36959327Wikipedia details all the guest participations, take a look there.
The only QOTSA track I've ever liked was Go With the Flow, I just could never get into these guys for some reason and this album didn't change it even though I listened to it twice.
Amazing album, i've listened like 8 times in the past few weeks. At first only Smooth Sailing stood out, but If I Had a Tail, and I Sat By the Ocean have become my favorites. I'm on my second listen today. I really want to to get it on vinyl but i've got no cash atm.
>>36959607Since the first time I've heard it, I just fucking love 'I Appear Missing' so much! Pretty sure it's about the whole Kyuss reforming debacle, which was a shit time for Josh. It's right now easily in the top 5 songs ever for me.
>>36959682I think it's more related to his death experience, but well, it can be that too.
>>36959716The shit time? Yes, of course. But the song wouldn't make sense if it's about that.
The album is really good. Smooth Sailing is my least favourite track and I still like it plenty.
>>36959796What shit time?I mean that he literally died in a surgery, it's pretty relevant.
>>36959508Yeah. Like, John probably made that song better, but they didn't make the song about Elton John. There's probably a whole bunch of appearances that improve the songs that I'm not conscious of, which is the way it should be.Grohl is the stand out, I think. I've always found his drumming style quite overdominating and distracting, but he absolutely nailed his role on this album. It's a strong rhythm section that doesn't feel the need to try and stand out over the vocals and lead guitar.
>>36959606they aren't really an inaccessible band so if you don't like them you pretty much just dont like them
The album came out? I used to listen to Songs For the Deaf a bunch, I'll listen to it now and compare them.
>>36959988its actually really solid, i was really thinking it would be shit but its actually very good
>>36959988Look on youtube. They put 4 songs into one 15 minute video with some amazing artwork!
>>36959988It's amazing.I haven't listened to any of their other stuff, so I don't know how it stacks up against it though.
>>36960029get amongst it, they have a really solid discography really
>>36959988Songs for the Deaf was my favourite of them but I feel like I like ...Like Clockwork just a bit better. It's hard to tell at this point but it's definitely one of their best albums.
>>36960029No.36959988 here, Songs For the Deaf is the shit. There's no way I'll like this album more.
Sorry to go off topic but this is my favorite song off of Songs For the Deaf, might be underwhelming.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVV_3Z1mp_c#t=24m36s
NICOTINE VALIUM VICODINE AND MARIHUANA ECSTASY AND ALCOHOLC-C-C-COOOOCAAAAAAAAAINE
I Sat by the Ocean is one of the most perfect QotSA songs...The chord structure is good, catchy. Homme's voice really stands out in the melodic verse and the guitar leads between verses are great. It's accessible enough to become a radio hit.
>>36960861i love it too
>>36960899However I would say that Kalopsia would give it a run for its money as the best song in the album.Whats the best song in LC /mu/?
>>36960958I Appear Missing
My current rankings - curious to see you guys' interpretationsSongs for the Deaf > Like Clockwork > Rated R > self-titled > Lullabies to Paralyze > Era VulgarisQueens are my favorite band, so it's pretty tough. And I don't mean this to say that Era Vulgaris sucks (far from it - just don't really like the last few tracks). But this new album is phenomenal. Perfectly paced, impeccable songwriting, and some of the best lyrics that Ginger Elvis has ever written.
>>36960958I feel as though I Appear Missing/the track ...Like Clockwork tie together to make one of the better endings to a record I've heard in a long time. I've listened to this album a good 25 times or so since I got it Wednesday...
>>36961099Nice order, although I hold Rated R as their best record to date.
>>36961099Lullabies > Like Clockwork > Songs for the Deaf > Rated R = Era Vulgaris = self titled
It's the first QOTSA album I've heard and although I was expecting to hate it it's really fucking good
I'm sorry to ask, but does anyone have a link to this album? I didn't seem to grab it when it came out. To keep with the discussion though, I prefer Rated R to Songs for the Deaf, but it's a close race. I look forward to hearing this one.
I kept saying to myself there was something missing from this record but now I'm not sure there is, its grown on me alot after about 10 listens
>>36960958Smooth Sailing. Then probably If i Had a Tail or Keep Your Eyes Peeled.
>>36961369http://archive.rebeccablacktech.com/mu/Next time you're looking for a link to an album that's somewhat frequently discussed, use the archive. At the top just search "clockwork mega" and you'll get a million working links.https://mega.co.nz/#F!EUdm0TJa!KfbsviSlGwNbAUAcbaVUPQ
>>36961178>Songs for the Deaf > S/T > Lullabies > Rated R=Like Clokwork>>>>> Era Vulgaris
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqFnDWdUBi8Just making sure everybody has seen this masterpiece of a performance.
>>36961465I keep forgetting to use that, sorry. Thanks for the link though!
>>36961178Rated R > SFTD = Like... > S/T > Lullabies > Era
>>36960958Best>I Sat by the OceanRunner Up>The Vampire of time and memory/My god is the sunWorst>Smooth Sailing
>>36961099Rated R > Era Vulgaris > Like Clockwork > Self-titled > Lullabies to paralyze > Songs for the DeafSongs is only in last because of Another Love Song and Gonna leave you. It has soo many great songs though
Does every song on this album have the word God in it?
>>36961556Woah there, Smooth Sailing is a killer track.
What's with all the dislike for Smooth Sailing? It's such a badass song, so fucking groovy.
>>36961556>2013>not blowing load over the status quo
>>36961667Surrounded by >>36961649 and >>36961669>me
>>36961639No, just one?!
>>36961639Keep Your Eyes Peeled>Praise God, Nothing is as it seemsThe Vampyre of Time and Memory>I want God to come My God Is the Sun>Kolopsia>They're off playing god Smooth Sailing>God only knows he probably thinks it's really deep
>>36961750Maybe Josh found Jeebus?
>>36961516>that picture
>>36961516Jesus christ, why do you even have that picture on your computer
>>36959856Grohl was absolutely amazing on Songs for the Deaf, his drumming is one of the reasons I love that album so much.
Listened to a few Gorillaz albums yesterday and it made me realize a collab between Josh and Damon would be awesome
>>36961099s/t > Rated R > Songs for the Deaf > Lullabies >>> Era VulgarisHaven't listened to all of LC yet, but I feel it'd be just below Lullabies.Songs for the Deaf would be higher without all of the radio stuff.
>>36962120is it grohl that plays on the record i take it?
>>36962215>I feel it'd be just below Lullabies.its a grower, trust me
>>36961556>BestI Appear Missing / Keep Your Eyes Peeled>Runner UpMy God Is the Sun / Smooth Sailing>The One That Feels Strangely Out of Place for MeFairweather Friends
>>36962241I think it's more that I don't really listen to QOTSA much anymore besides the s/t, so even if it's good it has to compare itself to the nostalgic memories of the others, and I don't think it will overcome that.I mean is it actually significantly better than EV, because I've listened to every other album probably 25-50 times, but I think I've only listened through all of EV twice
Does anyone else think this is like a perfect mix of QotSA and The Desert Sessions?
Guys, Era Vulgaris is a twisted gem. It's like if the madness state of mind took cocaine and lsd and then add some distorted and sharp synths. It's like sex screaming for forgiveness. It's a punch in the stomach of the radio. It's a great fucking jam (interpret the way you want). I love that album.
all of their albums are shitthis is for dadrocking fags that were born in the wrong generation
>>36962224Yes. And he's awesome.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrA2KLtAn1A
>>36962371>this is for dadrocking fags that were born in the wrong generationyou should describe why you don't like the music tho, not the fanbase
>>36962371Excuse me sir, but people are having fun here.Go away.Dadrock is shitty anyways.
>>36962371>2013>still using the term dadrock
>>36962437hes a good musician, i just can't get down with the foo fighters, they're terrible
>>36962491>sir>dadrock is shittyugh, i might have to take his side on this
>BestSmooth Sailing/Kalopsia>Runner UpThe Vampyre Of Time And Memory/I Appear Missing>Worst If I Had A Tail/Fairweather Friends
>>36961996I love both my little pony AND the queens of the stone age...
>>36962607>If I Had a Tail>Worst>I Appear Missing>Not best>Smooth Sailing>Best
>>36962515Okay that's fine. I just can't personally stand overplayed Dadrock. The music doesn't have any qualities that make is bad logically speaking, it just irritates me after a while.
>>36962349Ironically this is the only album which doesn't have a Desert Sessions song. Making a Cross could have fit.
>>36962664Queens of the Stone Age is dadrock made in 2013deal with it faglord
>>36962692...Like Clockwork is anything but dadrock. You may even call it emo but come on...
>>36962688I feel like this would have messed with the pace of the album.
>>36962692>faglordWow, moot should make /mu/ 18+ again. All these underage kids just ruining it for everyone during summer.
>>36961516That was beautiful. I can't believe I missed that live. Best song on the album made even better. So far LC is my AOTY.
>>36962779Nenada or RIckshaw. Or Both.Nenada would be so cash, Josh doing his best creepy Russian woman Impersonation? Fund it.
>that fucking slide guitar on the title trackMY DICK, EVERY TIME

Isn't it amusing how this album wasn't hyped through the roof but actually came out really solid?
>>36963235It felt better because I went in expecting mediocre but got amazing.
>>36962692That's nice? I don't care about some arbitrary genre label designating what music what I can and cannot enjoy.Eventually you'll learn that acting as you are only pushes other people away. It's okay man, you'll get out of highschool soon I'm sure.
>>36961099Rated R/...Like Clockwork > Lullabies > Self-titled > Songs for the Deaf > Era Vulgaris
>>36962909>dat outroNigga godamn
>>36959081I think it's my favorite QOTSA album to be honest. They sometimes teeter on the edge of dadrock but LC is so so good.
the album blows. i've been a long time qotsa fan, majorly disappointed with 10 tracks of what sounds like a whole lot of blithering writer's block. 'my god is the sun' was pretty exciting, but past that i think josh lost it. i must leave
>>36963117>bestI Sat by the Ocean/Smooth Sailing/If I Had a Tail>Runner UpI Appear Missing/Keep Your Eyes Peeled>worst>...Like Clockwork>bad songpick one
>>36962856Nenada could have fit after Fairweather but then again, it's tempo is a lot like Smooth Sailing so that could have been a repetition.>>36963235I was pretty hyped personally but yeah. Prior to release the threads of it usually didn't get more than 10 replies. Also I am hearing a lot of people are listening to the Queens of the first time with this album, which is cool. They are definitely one of the best rock bands out there, deserve more attention from the new generation.
>>36962180wow yes
Not a great album, not bad though.. I'll agree it 'flows' better when listening to it in its entirety, start to finish. But what quite a few others have said before, I really would've enjoyed a 'Songs for the Deaf 2', so to speak
>>36961516>that fucking pictureAbandon thread.
>>36962658kill yourself
>>36966026"You want me to make the same record I made before? Don’t hold your breath; because you’re probably gonna pass out.”
>>36966266*holds breath*
>>36966122hey it's heavy enough for transformers and sweet enough for my little pony alright?!
>>36962810>moot should make /mu/ 18+ again. Every board is 18+ you dipshitLooks like the only underage fag in here is you
>>36959607This 100% how I feel.
