I want the NMH vinyl box set but it's $150 is it worth it I want to start collecting vinyl but it's so expensive
>>35944102Do you really like NMH? If so, sure it's worth it. Otherwise no. It's not outstanding quality or anything.
>>35944119I want to start collecting I really love itaots and I figure its a good place to start I have all my dad's old LPs (mostly Bob Dylan and Cat Stevens and similar) but I want more of my own stuff on the format
>>35944119how is it not outstanding quality?
What are the chances of getting bad records like these? I mean the tonnes of classical records out there by no-names. I remember seeing Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, but I decided to pass it up, for whatever reason at the time.
>>35944172Just go for it.>>35944213Box it comes in is pretty shitty and fragile. The sleeves are low quality and the print is shitty.>>35944233I don't know. I only buy stuff like this when it's cheap. These were $2 ea.
>paying for music
Too much noise on side two of Low.Ege Bamyasi is an unofficial release, and it sounds kinda bad ;_;
>>35944275Tough luck. I saw an original french pressing of Ege once. The one that got away
Edward's speech impediment is really cute, in a way.>HELLSVILLE, BE'WSS PEEW, RORH DA BARREWS DOWN THE PEEWS
>mfw I look at used records and see some nice Swedish punk singles I want>they're $40 each
Got this recently. It gives me extra power when I play guitar and sing. It's a western hat. It has a teardrop crown with some pinches at the front. I'm thinking of getting that portion reshaped to be more like Bob Dylan's Rolling Thunder Revue hat.
100% Beaver/Rabbit blend
>>35944382>>35944390This made me laugh uncontrollably.
Awesome cowboy inside too.
My Fedora
gotta get those KUKL albums on vinyl too..
I think the feather is a great touch. I also got this like 2 days after I got my other hat because I ended up shipping my other hat across the country and didn't want to go on an airplane without any headwear.
>>35944382leliktf tho, i have tight jeans and Mastodon t-shirt for the powers
They're both 100% Beaver/Rabbit
Biltmore, baby. Hats really bring out an individual. I'm not a fat and ugly neckbeard which is also helpful.
>>35944411Please post a pic of you playing guitar while you're wearing that hat.
I don't wear this hat much. It's pretty lightweight and for a cheap trilby, it's actually decent.
I just figured I had to give my 12 string a hat.
Also, my foot's off to this excellent guitar. Truly, nothing comes close to a G&L.
>>35944429I don't have any.
>>35944461Better take one wouldn't agree?
>>35944068Best $85 I've ever spent.(I didn't take a picture because lazy, since my set is exactly the same excepts it's the 1980 printing with the blue hardcover instead of this brown one.)
>>35944471Why would I wear that hat when I'm still in my neon colored pajamas?
>>35944476is there a more recent printing ? I wouldn't mind if it were from like the 2000's, but 1980 is already a bit oldalso pic were my last purchase
It's a shame most of The Bad Seeds older records are so hard to find.Still really happy I got this one.
>>35944564>>35944546>reposting just to put your trip onWow.
>>35944578How else would I feed my ego.
>>35944486To be somewhat experimental and fresh?
>>35944476What is it and do you expect to read it all? Also could you recommend me any downbeat traditional pop or musicals? Most seem to be full of gaiety.
>>35944512There's a Second Edition which was first published around ~2000 or so. I haven't read the newer one so I can't compare directly, but I've read a lot of people complaining about it. They say that the quality (prose and content) of the new and changed entries is noticeably poorer than previous editions and reflects its having been written by grad students rather than PhD's, and especially criticize the poorly researched and arbitrarily selected new articles devoted to best-selling popular musicians, and so on.When you think about it, only a fraction of the content would be 1980-present in the first place and you probably wouldn't look it up in those books anyway, so except for the handful of topics about which academic consensus has changed substantially and dramatically within the past 30 years, the printing date is hardly a dealbreaker compared to if it were a text about, say, science.
I can't stand classical music on vinyl, the surface noise just becomes too much of an annoyance.
>>35944850noted, thanks for the answer ! I remember seeing these books at uni library, will try to check em
>>35944678>What is it and do you expect to read it all?New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians And no but at the rate I've been going it's feasible that I'll kill myself trying.A downbeat musical from that era is pretty much a contradiction in terms, but there were plenty of melancholy ballad-tempo songs that became hits. You've probably heard "My Funny Valentine", to name a still-famous example. My advice would be find a standards singer whose voice you really enjoy and then grab a bunch of Great American Songbook compilations everyone has recorded. Some are devoted to individual songwriters's material (Berlin, Gershwin, Rodgers & Hart, etc.) and some are mixed, but I guarantee there'll be at least some downbeat numbers on any of them.
>>35944960thanks
>>35944892>>35944987You're welcome. Have a good morning.

>>35945261fucking nice
>>35945522Oh I was just le memeing. I do buy music from Bandcamp occasionally and I've even pre-ordered the new BoC album. Their prices aren't that bad, although the postage was a little steep. It came quick though.

>>35945228PS dudes that are going to be around on /mu/ for a while. I'm doing a vinyl rip of the Captain Beefheart record right now to then share in a sharethread.

>>35945590Artists can make good records after making bad/mediocre ones. At the very least it will probably resell well in the future.
>>35945632>Schubert String Quartet 15ey one of my friends is working on this with his chamber group
>>35945645A man after my own heart. What does he play?
>>35945686CelloWe're at music school together
>>35945686They're all singers. They've re-arranged it for gospel style.
>>35945707That'd probably be pretty cool. Schumann's melodies translate really well to the voice.
d
>>35945698I'm even more envious now. I studied cello for a while before dropping it to focus on voice. It sucks because I'm (or I was) good enough to appreciate a great player's technique but not quite to ever tackle a piece like this one without embarrassing myself. I wish good luck to you both.>>35945707You're joking, but I've actually been arranging a swing/big band style re-imagining of "And He Shall Purify" for a capella scat choir.
>>35945603To be honest dude, no one really cares about Captain Beefheart and no one seriously likes him, they're just trolling because he's a meme.
>>35945960Sure.. I'm sure heaps of people share that opinion.
Sorry bro, but Van Vliet was truly a genius!
Got two of these with my preorder of the game. One is for some dude in the US and I'm gonna keep the other one. p. kewl
Is this fedora guy for real?
>>35947899Of course I am. I would be jelly too.
>>35947849I'm not really interested in Persona 4 or the music, but that's some nice presentation.

>>35947849wow that looks awesome, the soundtracks for those games are usually pretty good too
>>35948000those hats are fucking embarassing m8, one of them has a feather on it
>>35948081You just aren't a classy guy.
>>35948061not really, pretty generic j-rock and jpop. Note this is from the fighting game which was released last year in the US but only tomorrow in the UK, not the actual Persona 4 PS2 game. Pretty cool to have anw, it's probably quite rare
>>35948152ok, you blew it

33 1/3 has loads of /mu/core books too. Among them are Spiderland, ITAOTS, Loveless the list could go on...
>>359484672/3
In this moment, I am euphoric. Not because of a false notion, such as, the Beatles are shit, but because I am shitposting on /mu/.

>>35949111>tfw talked last night to the guy who drummed on Gold Star for Robot Boy and I Am A Scientist>tfw he knows my name
>>35949185Gold Star is one of my favorites. How did you meet him? I heard the guys are really approachable and down to earth and they like to drink more than is good for them.
>>35949147Is the tool recording from mixer or fanrecorded?
Only have shitty webcam.Havergal Brian - The Gothic Symphony (recorded live at the proms)Frederic Cliffe - Symphony No.1 & Cloud And Sunshine
>>35949147I'm listening to all of them, and I haven't gotten to Tool yet. I don't know.
>>35949223>>35949251
>>35949220I adore gold star like nothing else! And he's actually still really active in the local D8N scene. He runs a little cassette label that puts out Dayton bands (and one of his own little bands he's in).He is super nice. He asked me how my music and everything was going, we talked about one of the bands last night (Dear Fawn, Motel Beds, and Marnie Stern) and I asked him about his current music plans.Totally sweet dude.I've also met Mitch Mitchell who played guitar on Bee Thousand and everything. He was a bit less friendly and much more drunk.
Got the Flaming Lips today. Got the rest over the last couple of weeks since Record Store Day.
