You should listen to every single one of these. This is a great starting place for anyone looking to delve into many types of Jazz. I personally suggest A Love Supreme or Time Out if you want to start somewhere.

I always feel like jazz threads on /mu/ are pretty pleb. But this is a rad chart.

I never see anyone post about jazz a little further out in left field that's happening today like Supersilent or Food or Humcrush or The Thing. Anybody out there?

Well I can't say they all fit into a category of happy or bluesy, but Time Out is real upbeat. Out to Lunch, Four For Trane and See No Evil are as well. Red Clay is pretty bluesy (One of my all time faves) as is Karma. None of these albums really qualify as "sad" however.

Even then, many of the songs were done in a single take (I mean once a solo started). I have a copy of a deluxe edition, and all it has is an alternate version of Flamingo Sketches, making a grand total of six songs. Is there a version with even more alternate tracks and false starts? If so, can you link me to that.

Check out Dave Brubeck Quartet - Time out from 1959. It's an absolute classic, kind of upbeat and REALLY easy to into.
