I usually don't get my recording equipment ready unless I have something to record, or I just experiment until something sounds right.

I think you're reading a little too much into it. If it's designed badly then you shouldn't wear it. If it is designed well and the focus of the production of the shirt was making a good shirt rather than advertising the band, I say wear it. It's not on discogs / discogs is a bad database that is inaccurate as hell despite its good intentions. I have no interest in revealing the title because the music itself is so inconsequential compared to the marketing method behind it. Maybe you'll remember this post if it ever does show up on some idiot's blog in the future. There are a lot of underground pranks that gather posthumous acclaim like that.

As far as releasing tapes goes, you really just want to get as many decent consumer decks as possible, clean and demagnitize all the heads, make sure the levels are right, then daisy chain the audio from the master tape through each deck and record a tape in each one. The more you have, the better, because it means less plays of the master. Avoid commercial dubbing machines at all costs. They're just not worth it.

It's more important that they're clean and in working order than anything else. Some tapers will be more anal about it, but the cassette is by no means a hifi medium as it is, so I don't sweat it. Everything I use came from ebay/the thrift store. Just pick something up and start doing it. That's what matters much more than any gear.
