My favorite is Guns N' Roses, without a question. I loved everything they put out. I listened to Appetite for Destruction at least a couple times a day 2 years ago. It's a little cheesy to say, but that is a badass album. T. Rex, Beatles, Led Zeppelin and others were favorites of mine a couple years ago too.

Meat Loaf "almost cracked" when CBS executive Clive Davis rejected the project.[6] The singer recounts the incident in his autobiography. Not only did Davis, according to Meat Loaf, say that "actors don't make records", the executive challenged Steinman's writing abilities and knowledge of rock music:

Do you know how to write a song? Do you know anything about writing? If you're going to write for records, it goes like this: A, B, C, B, C, C. I don't know what you're doing. You're doing A, D, F, G, B, D, C. You don't know how to write a song... Have you ever listened to pop music? Have you ever heard any rock-and-roll music... You should go downstairs when you leave here... and buy some rock-and-roll records.[11]

Meat Loaf asserts "Jim, at the time, knew every record ever made. [He] is a walking rock encyclopedia." Although Steinman laughed off the insults, the singer screamed "Fuck you, Clive!" from the street up to his building.[12]

I'm sure everyone has different bands that fit into these categories. But no two people's groups will be exactly the same, and based on the rest of the discussions/tastes on this board, I would think that the Band would fall into more people's "let's talk about it" section. It's funny. At my age my father had already travelled around Australia (where I live), met my mum, had my sister and bought their first house. I feel so immature in comparison, yet modern society says it's OK for me not to have done those things yet. Makes me wonder how far this extension of adolescence will go in future generations.

I said no such thing. Nor do I necessarily disagree with it. At the time, I would have chosen not to but after 'pregnant' happens, the guy is out the 'choices' picture. After that mistake, you make do the best you can, and I did - and I did do well, anyway.

I'm sure a lot of us are holding ourselves back, but it's not entirely so.
I have a buddy who's father fucked up and knocked someone up when they were 16. He likes to shout at us 'WHEN I WAS YOUR AGE, I HAD MY OWN CAR, I HAD A GOOD JOB, I HAD MY OWN APARTMENT!' that kind of thing. (And we were in high school at the time.)
Whether or not it's a reality, we've been fed that we MUST go to school or we're fucked, so everyone does.

My dad walked on to great job after great job with no education past high school, and that's just not the case anymore.

the music from once is not rock and roll
it's musical theater music *about* rock and roll
closer to "rent" than to any classic rock record.

if it were released just as a rock record it would fail and critics would ignore or pan it.

Damn, that's pretty hot. I fucking love that song (I find that it's JJ's answer to Elvis Costello's No Action, which is the pinnacle of early New Wave, as far as I'm concerned). Do you have a version you can upload that's not YouTube quality?

Anyway, yeah, I guess I'll upload the live Joe Jackson stuff I've got. I've only kept the three major shows/albums that I think exemplify the best stuff. First up is Rockpalast '83, then I guess I'll do Live 80-86 and At the BBC. Stay tuned, and please respond if you're interested. If no one's gonna download, I'd rather not waste my time.

Here's part 1 of Live at BBC. There's some raw studio cuts scattered in here, but there's also some nice pub rock played for spoiled college kids somewhere in GB (Ireland, I think). It's good though.
