I know the album's a few weeks old now, and maybe you guys just don't care about it anyway, but I'm loving the new Steven Wilson. Anyone else heard it? What do you think? How does it stack up vs. his other stuff/other prog?

Yes, I'm new here.

>> No.33778963

better than anything else I've heard from him, it's still pretty boring though

>> No.33778975

when i saw it got 5 stars in the guardian i threw up in my mouth a little

>> No.33779021

I've been meaning to check it out.
Is it like Porcupine Tree?

>> No.33779091

I think it's pretty awesome
especially 'the watchmaker' is a very strong song IMO

>>33779021
nope
totally different sound, less rock, more prog ...

>> No.33779333

OP here
definitely, the watchmaker is awesome -- the holy drinker is the apple of my eye (or ear?) currently.

>>33779021
yeah, I mean you can tell who it is... SW has an aesthetic throughout all his projects, i think. But this is way more in the vein of jethro tull or king crimson or pink floyd than porcupine tree ever was. Less metal, more jazz.

>> No.33779412

Luminol was pretty cool. The rest was kinda disappointing in comparison.

>> No.33779417

>>33779379
jazz? this album sounds nothing like jazz

>> No.33779426

It was... fine, to say the least. It does get boring after a while.

>> No.33779432

I really like it, Luminol and The Holy Drinker are my favorites, but it's all good.
I think the drummer's great too.

They gave Storm Corrosion a good review too

>> No.33779475

Not very exciting

Like Grace for Drowning, but without anything as good as Sectarian or the good bits of Raider

>> No.33779507

needs more tool, steven wilson and porcupine tree are awful

>> No.33779512

>>33779417
sorry, I misspoke, i meant a jazz fusion vibe.

imo Drive Home is a masterpiece, been listening on repeat for about 13 hours now

>> No.33779911

A fantastic album through and through. Not his best work IMO but certainly up to the quality that he generally puts out.

>the faux mellotrons

>> No.33780029

has anyone a link for this? at the first run it sounded like Cheesy Hackett-like prog, but it might deserve a second listen.

I respect Anthony a lot more since reading that

>> No.33780103

I really enjoyed it. It's a lot more mellow than his usual work, but with occasional moments of intensity.

>respecting an easily frustrated pseudo intellectual

This is why I don't come to /mu/ much these days.

love it. not as varied as grace for drowning unfortunately, but still a great album. I love the ELP-esque organ solo in holy drinker and all that flute and guthrie govan action. easily 8/10 - 9/10 for me.
