Like if Domo23 will impress a dickrider, but anyone with a mind of their own will not be impressed. Everything about it screams 3rd or 4th single. The second song in the video seems more interesting. A song with a defineable theme! Not just random edgy blabbering! What a novelty!

If Tyler made more stuff like She, Sam is Dead, Analog 2, and Yonkers, he'd fucking rule.

Why is /mu/ so ridiculously pleb when it comes to Rap?

Not saying that /mu/ doesn't suck in other genres as well, but as soon as the discussion turns to Rap people seriously talk about kids like Odd Future or Danny Brown as if they were seriously good artists.

>> No.33519001

Earl obviously has tons of potential and a lot of skill but let's not pretend he has anything even remotely resembling a solid discography. "Chum" is the only hint of Doris being about something other than rape anyways

my prediction for this year in hip-hop: Old will be AOTY, shorter than XXX and more focused on emotional lyricism than over-the-top party rap, but otherwise Danny will go on to kill it with singles and features like he's been doing all year.

Danny Brown will be the new Lil Wayne (back when Lil Wayne was fun and reasonably witty) and Earl will be the new MF Doom. Lil Ugly Mane will secretly be the most talented rapper/producer alive

I don't have any certain group or MC that I consider myself fan of. If anything, the question should be "what kind of Rap are you a fan of?", as in the great divide between the usual Eastcoast Hip Hop and Gangsta Rap that is predominant in the South, West and Mid-West. Though I couldn't even answer that question, I've listened to EC Rap almost exclusively when I just got into Rap, then switched over to almost exclusively ignorant Gangsta Rap. Nowadays I don't listen to too much Rap at all, but if I do it's usually mixed. I'll just check the first five Rap songs on my shuffled iPod to give you an idea:

Whenever /mu/ starts talking about hip-hop you can tell you're all a bunch of 16 year olds.

Yes, OF/Danny Brown/SGP/Lil Ugly Mane are good. That doesn't make them "god-tier" artists. It's clear all you children know are a) tumblr-core shit from the 2010's or b) albums taken from any best-of bloglist, and you only started listening to hip-hop once pitchfork started sucking its dick. the point is that in /mu/ hip-hop threads, all you will get are the two examples I posted, because 90% of "hip-hop patricians" on this board only listen to the latest and greatest artists getting blog buzz. (i.e. A$AP Rocky/Danny Brown/whatever). Not saying those artists aren't good, I'm just saying it's a pretty limited view of the genre as a whole.

and yes, those are assumptions, but they're obviously made from reading various threads on the same theme as this one

>> No.33525153

>>33525086
thats such a stupid thing to assume

how do you know they dont actually enjoy those artists? not everyone is a little hypebeast tailgating the latest trends

Yeah it's cookie-cutter shit, yes it would be nice if most of the people's taste wasn't cookie-cutter shit, but if you hold on long enough you can generally find something good that you haven't heard of.

>> No.33525204

>>33525153
you're missing my point. I don't care at all if they genuinely enjoy them or if they're tailgating the latest trends.

Am I missing something here?

I mean do you really want these threads to just be people posting fucking Wu Tang and Nas every time? What do you expect?

okay, you're having trouble understanding. let me make it more clear for you. in my first post I mentioned two categories of hip-hop that gets posted in these threads. I'll give examples:

a) tumblr-core shit from the 2010's
>see all the artists I already mentioned, + Captain Murphy, +Nacho Picasso, etc. etc. You see the theme here.

b) albums taken from any best-of bloglist
>Kanye/MF Doom/Nas/Wu-Tang/Biggie/A Tribe/Slum Village/all "top-50 best rap albums of all time" shit

Like I said, whether or not someone genuinely likes the music or not doesn't matter at all. The point is that they simply don't know of much beyond either of these two categories.

I could even add a third, c) 3deep5u underground conscious rap (à la Aesop Rock)

tl;dr - /mu/'s scope on hip-hop is limited.

get it?

In terms of lesser known hip-hop, Clear Soul Forces are a group that I am really enjoying at the moment and are largely flying under the radar.

They have a upcoming collab with Carolina outfit Kooley High but in the meantime I would suggest listening to their 2012 effort "Detroit Revolution(s)" which for me was hip-hop AOTY. J Roc in particular stands out as a lyricist for me.
