ITT God Tier Hip Hop Artistspic VERY related
who are these men
>>33518133Earl Sweatshirt and Frank Ocean
>>33518133Left: Frank Ocean one of the greatest artists of our timeRight: Earl Sweatshirt an amazing rapper
>>33518186>>33518197thanks you guyswhat would you recommend i should start with for them
>>33518197*An overrated rapper who has some witty lines but isn't that great when considering all factors
>>33518216Frank Ocean - Well he has an album that was generally well received, "Channel Orange"Earl Sweatshirt - He also has an album "EARL". You could try that, or some of the various odd future mixtapes or albums that he is on such as radicals
>>33518216Earl Sweatshirt: ChumFrank Ocean: Pyramids (Long ass song but def worth the listen
>>33518295*Radical
>Inb4 pleb
Still?
>>33518345Earl hasn't regressed like Tyler has. Objectively the best rapper in Odd Future right now
>>33518335Lupe is a god among men
>>33518376I wish Lasers never existed, man.
>>33518388it's not that bad, quit being a drone man
>>33518371>Objectively best rapperIt's funny because "best rapper" is subjective
>>33518034
>>33518388Lasers was still amazing compared to most music out these days. Wasn't up to Lupe standards though.
>>33518335in 2008 maybe
>>33518409But it is bad. Only had like two good tracks.
>>33518306>Long ass song but def worth the listen
>>33518437Why
>>33518371I dont think there will ever be a point where i will be ok with any of them or anything they do.also watching the act of people saying odd future sucks but earl is good slowly morph into a cliche has been very funny
>>33518476Earl has sick ass flow. y u mad dawg?
K-rino. Favorite storyteller. Why? Well, listen.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8Rf24KdOBw
>>33518419Anyone who uses "objectively" in their posting is probably trolling.
>>33518472wrong pic
>>33518034go back to /b/
>>33518467sure, the sugery/electronicy instrumentals/overall feel of the album was really bad and nothing like F&L but his lyricism was all still there
>>33518476Seeing people point out that everyone loves earl but hates odd future, while simultaneously distancing themselves from either of them and acting superior turn into a clique is funny.
>>33518409No, Lasers was bad.Food and Liquor II is the one that gets droned on, I felt it was a decent album but everyone seemed to hate it as much as Lasers around here.
>>33518532This
>>33518419>in Odd FutureIt's a really hard case to claim that anyone in OF is a better rapper than Earl.
>>33518527this
>>33518537>>33518527
>>33518503he has ok flow but thats not why i dont want to listen to them>>33518532i dunno about acting superior but whatever u say Little apple blossom
and ye ofc
>>33518371Earl has been on a fucking roll since he came back with a slew of great verses. Doris is gonna be way better than Earl.
>>33518589Yes, his lyricism was there, and I appreciate that, but that can only go so far in regards to the album as a whole. It just wasn't enough to save it.
>>33518630What do you think about Wolf?
>>33518621There are aspects of C4C where he clearly got a little ahead of himself but i think id generally agree with him being a good rapper.
Nujabes ft Substantial and Pase Rock. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5FB2WObnQQ
>>33518657I like Tyler. looking forward to Wolf. Domo 23 was pretty good. Looking forward to a full version of Bimmer, if there is one
Good Odd Future albums that I should listen to?
>>33518667PUMP THIS SHITPUMP THIS SHITReally though he's a good lyricist and one of the best producers in the industry right now. Fantastic Damage was his best release though.
>>33518706Earl
>>33518671Fuck man you linking that just made me realize.. It's been three years..RIP Seba Jun, or Nujabes. ;~;7>>33518671
Best Kanye album.
>>33518638Yeah, I guess if you arent as much into lyricism but I can understand why you didnt like it, I mean I dont listen to it at all anymore...but saying it was just plain bad is too far man too far
>>33518706EarlBastardOF Tape Vol. 2I'm hesitant to list Goblin as it seems to be an album you either enjoy or absolutely hate. I was the former.
>>33518736RIP.
>>33518409Lupe Fiasco came to Chicago HOB and apologized for creating the shitty album known as Lasers
What are your opinions on Vinnie Paz?
>>33518747Thats objectively untrue. Late Registration is just the best.
>>33518785>>33518589>>33518527
>>33518785What Lupe Fiasco albums SHOULD I listen to?
What do you guys think of Childish Gambino?
>>33518754I love the lyricism, it was what got me hooked onto Lupe in the first place.Maybe "bad" is too harsh, I can admit, but when he released Friend of the People it blew Lasers out of the water, and it's not like his lyrical content was THAT much deeper or anything.
>>33518833The CoolFood and LiquorFood and Liquor II
>>33518822How do you rank MBDTF?
>>33518833The Cool is his magnum opus.
>>33518844He's a mastermind.
>>33518657Don't know why that other asshole replied pretending to be me, but whatever. I don't think it looks too promising. Tyler is gonna have to grow as an artist if he wants to impress anyone. Like if Domo23 will impress a dickrider, but anyone with a mind of their own will not be impressed. Everything about it screams 3rd or 4th single. The second song in the video seems more interesting. A song with a defineable theme! Not just random edgy blabbering! What a novelty! If Tyler made more stuff like She, Sam is Dead, Analog 2, and Yonkers, he'd fucking rule.
>>33518833This >>33518335The CoolFriend of the People: I Fight EvilFood and Liquor II (It really gets a lot of hate but I enjoyed it)
>>33518844really really bad production with rhymes that are cute for like the first 5 seconds but the slight slight charm of hearing someone mention Parks and Rec in a rap verse quickly dwindles and youre just left with boring beats and lackluster introspection
>>33518861In my opinion, second best.
>>33518706Radical, No Idols, Untitled EP.
>>33518844he is for children, so his name suits him
>>33518844Dude is wack. Really can't get into him.Corny.
>>33518621His verse on that Piss Test remix was the best verse of 2012 as far as I'm concerned.
>>33518844Ok rapper with nothing to say. Generally uninteresting. Loved by people who have low standards.
Why is /mu/ so ridiculously pleb when it comes to Rap?Not saying that /mu/ doesn't suck in other genres as well, but as soon as the discussion turns to Rap people seriously talk about kids like Odd Future or Danny Brown as if they were seriously good artists.
Earl obviously has tons of potential and a lot of skill but let's not pretend he has anything even remotely resembling a solid discography. "Chum" is the only hint of Doris being about something other than rape anywaysmy prediction for this year in hip-hop: Old will be AOTY, shorter than XXX and more focused on emotional lyricism than over-the-top party rap, but otherwise Danny will go on to kill it with singles and features like he's been doing all year. Danny Brown will be the new Lil Wayne (back when Lil Wayne was fun and reasonably witty) and Earl will be the new MF Doom. Lil Ugly Mane will secretly be the most talented rapper/producer alive
Hey idk if this the thread for this but the only type of rap/hiphop im interested in is well rap for lifting...like the only rap song I enjoy listening to right now is mgk - d3mons because its great when i'm lifting. Do you guys know of any other songs similar?
>>33518994I'd really like if we could discuss other artists besides them, lol.Who are you a fan of?
>>33519006http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCgxi-h1PoI
>>33518994chill out bruh bruh danny brown is funny as fuck he can get as mainstream as he wants i could never hate him
>>33519001>Earl will be the new MF Doom>Earl will be the new MF Doom
Anyone listen to Doomtree here? You guys should. Get No Kings and explore all the artists in the collective. I'm NLT exaggerating when I say fucking all of them are amazing lyricists and they have some good producers.
>>33518306>10 minutes>longWho the fuck are you and why did you come here? Leave /mu/ forever.
>>33518994>I dont like them so they must be bad
>>33518994What are you favorite artists then? Please fuck off Danny is great. I'm a backpacker by /mu/ standards too.
>>33519006>liking mgkNo. You only lift to Waka Flocka for now on.
>>33519063My nigga.I found them out through Dessa.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSxSCv7Cegc
>>33519065The song is amazing. Don't care how long it is.
>>33519006>liking MGK>lifting to rap instead of electro-housePleb
>>33519056But you know it's true. Doesn't mean he's anywhere near as talented as Doom is, but he's finna be the new king of the backpackers if Joey Bada$$ doesn't beat him to it
pic relatedand The Downfall of Iblysand i don't care how pleb as fuck it is.Get rich or die tryin' makes me feel like a P.I.M.P. whilst i drive around town.
>>33519115Dessa is really good. I just finished listening to one album by everyone there and I can say all if them were above a 7/10. Fucking incredible collective. My favorite was POS never better, it's basically punk-hop.
>>33519006big narstie
>>33519152But he isn't. Doom isn't even that backpacker either. I mean he's underground but he's not conscious all the time. Earl can never be Doom and isn't even in the same vein as Doom
Anyone into Jazz-hop?Been listening to a lot of Bop Alloy lately.
>>33519223Been listening to Long Arm -The branches if it counts. Instrumental jazz-hop
>>33519152>finna
>>33519189http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kx1OCJ2gbEA
>>33519279>being this white washed
>>33519313>Not pretending that you come from the ghetto>White washedWhat?
>>33518306>songs>odd future songsleave
>>33519362>doesn't even know what white washed means>assuming it comes from the ghetto>still calling it the "ghetto">2011 + 2
>>33519043I don't have any certain group or MC that I consider myself fan of. If anything, the question should be "what kind of Rap are you a fan of?", as in the great divide between the usual Eastcoast Hip Hop and Gangsta Rap that is predominant in the South, West and Mid-West. Though I couldn't even answer that question, I've listened to EC Rap almost exclusively when I just got into Rap, then switched over to almost exclusively ignorant Gangsta Rap. Nowadays I don't listen to too much Rap at all, but if I do it's usually mixed. I'll just check the first five Rap songs on my shuffled iPod to give you an idea:>Prodagy - Insomniahttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqq74WCnKmk>Phonk Beta - Money Right Nowhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRIy34jHAt4>Mr. Lif - The Come Uphttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1Hq4BsYABU>Nine - Tha Producthttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InWqbk1zziw>Birdie - Kaozhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4iBiuFv4cYYes, I am bored by the way.
>>33519411You completely misinterpreted my post.Anyway I'm done here, I have to go grocery shopping with my girlfriend. Sorry I couldn't stick around to argue about pointless shit any longer :(
>>33519540
>>3351911810 minutes is not a long song.

>>33519618For hip hop, yes it is. Keep your autism to yourself.
>>33518568I think Hodgy is pretty damn good and underrated.
>>33518306For Frank Ocean you should definitely listen to Golden Girls instead of Pyramids.
How do you guys feel about Duality? I personally love it. I'm really excited to see Flylo getting into more hip-hop/rap.
>>33518216"Nostalgia, Ultra" for FrankThat shit is so damn good
>>33518312>thisThe beats put out by OF are only just now starting to get good. Radical is better than anything else they put out.
>>33518909>Kanye is just one of those artists who always has people making album ranking chartsIt's weird how some artists do this. Doesn't even really matter how many albums/ep's they put out.
>>33519771whats a good El-P album to start with? and could you possibly up it?
>>33520828idk about god-tier yet, but that album is really great.>dem delicious keys on Between Friends
>OGFKTWA>not for hipsters who are too soft and sheepish to get an own taste in rap music
>>33521015Duality is nice, but I don't think it's anything that is really stand out fantastic. I think the only reason it got as much hype as it did is because of Fly Lo being so mysterious with the entire project. And then when people actually heard that it was Flying Lotus it gained a bit more hype. But about a week after that it pretty much died out. I do look forward to his full length album though.
>God Tier>Hip HopMore like sub-human tier. Stop idolizing these apes /mu/
>>33521046>OGFKTWA>being autisticeven though i agree with you partially
>>33521050you're very right. Do you know of any hip-hop albums that explore one theme like Duality but actually stay consistent throughout? That was my greatest annoyance with Duality (and many, many other hip-hop albums).
>>33521046>calling people hipsters
hey guys I really like eminem, have your heard of him? he is the best rapper alive I think.
>>33520999Cancer 4 Cure is pretty good. If you just want his production check out R.A.P. Music.
>>33521136>inb4 hipster copypasta
Anybody?
>implying he isn't the most likely candidate for the second coming of christ himself
>>33520828It sounds like this guy is trying to make a Doom record.
>>33521328whoah, it's like 2008 all over again

>>33518437This isn't the time for dick measuring!
Whenever /mu/ starts talking about hip-hop you can tell you're all a bunch of 16 year olds. Yes, OF/Danny Brown/SGP/Lil Ugly Mane are good. That doesn't make them "god-tier" artists. It's clear all you children know are a) tumblr-core shit from the 2010's or b) albums taken from any best-of bloglist, and you only started listening to hip-hop once pitchfork started sucking its dick. You're all baby guppies. Not mad, just saying you're all plebs when it comes to hip-hop.>not a single artist from the south mentioned in this thread^ proof of everything I just said
>>33524868huh >>33524756aint that some god damn shit
>>33524868okay, didn't see that Gucci Mane post. but besides that, my point still stands.
>>33524889so who are you to tell people what is god tier and what isnt
>>33524868>my opinion is the definitive opinion, I bet you guys are all plebs because [list of assumptions]Whoa, you sure showed them.
>>33524964>>33524988the point is that in /mu/ hip-hop threads, all you will get are the two examples I posted, because 90% of "hip-hop patricians" on this board only listen to the latest and greatest artists getting blog buzz. (i.e. A$AP Rocky/Danny Brown/whatever). Not saying those artists aren't good, I'm just saying it's a pretty limited view of the genre as a whole.and yes, those are assumptions, but they're obviously made from reading various threads on the same theme as this one
>>33525086thats such a stupid thing to assumehow do you know they dont actually enjoy those artists? not everyone is a little hypebeast tailgating the latest trends
>>33525086Yeah it's cookie-cutter shit, yes it would be nice if most of the people's taste wasn't cookie-cutter shit, but if you hold on long enough you can generally find something good that you haven't heard of.
>>33525153you're missing my point. I don't care at all if they genuinely enjoy them or if they're tailgating the latest trends.
>>33525204>i dont care if they're tailgating the latest trends>comaplins about how people only listen to the latest and greatest artists getting blog buzzAm I missing something here?I mean do you really want these threads to just be people posting fucking Wu Tang and Nas every time? What do you expect?
this thread has been really bad>>33524868p. sure SGP is from the south u fucking retard
>>33525295hes hardly mentioned in these threads i dont even know why he'd get clumped in with danny brown and rocky
>>33525295>dat miami soundholy fuck SGP has been my 2nd favorite fix recently besides DG
>>33525235okay, you're having trouble understanding. let me make it more clear for you. in my first post I mentioned two categories of hip-hop that gets posted in these threads. I'll give examples:a) tumblr-core shit from the 2010's>see all the artists I already mentioned, + Captain Murphy, +Nacho Picasso, etc. etc. You see the theme here.b) albums taken from any best-of bloglist>Kanye/MF Doom/Nas/Wu-Tang/Biggie/A Tribe/Slum Village/all "top-50 best rap albums of all time" shitLike I said, whether or not someone genuinely likes the music or not doesn't matter at all. The point is that they simply don't know of much beyond either of these two categories.I could even add a third, c) 3deep5u underground conscious rap (à la Aesop Rock)tl;dr - /mu/'s scope on hip-hop is limited.get it?
>>33525312no one on /mu/ like aesop rockfor good reason he sucks
>>33525312>ITT God Tier Hip-Hop Albums>hnng guys why do you only post god tier albums hhnnnnnnnn
>>33525312I understand what you're trying to say though for the most part but I don't necessarily agree.
>>33525312at least tumblrcore is new and evolving hip hop. everyone has heard the biggies and tribes and wutangs, but it gets boring praising them constantly
Shahmen, Dälek, Deep Puddle Dynamics and Youngblood Brass Band are my favourites
In terms of lesser known hip-hop, Clear Soul Forces are a group that I am really enjoying at the moment and are largely flying under the radar. They have a upcoming collab with Carolina outfit Kooley High but in the meantime I would suggest listening to their 2012 effort "Detroit Revolution(s)" which for me was hip-hop AOTY. J Roc in particular stands out as a lyricist for me.http://clearsoulforces.bandcamp.com/album/detroit-revolution-s
>>33525295>SGP being from the southsure whatever. I was referring to down-south rap like in your picture, like Ludacris, like Goodie Mob, like Mike Jones, like David Banner, etc.
>>33525366>like LudacrisSGP is heavily influenced by Three 6 Mafia you know.
>>33525366/mu/ definitely talks about the southlurk more playboywe need to talk about the mid 2000's more
>>33525363they are fuckin great
>>33525389exactly. so why do we never see any three-6 or project pat threads, but millions of SGP threads? see what I'm getting at?
Does anybody like the artists from http://www.mellomusicgroup.com/yUapollo brownhas looddisee14ktKenn starrdudley perkinsboog brownguilty simpsonfinalesubstantial
>>33525312>can't deal with the great changes hip-hop has had in the past 2 years, making it a better genre it ever was before>tries to disclassify legendary cornerstones of hip-hop craftmanship because he thinks he's above them>wants to make people believe Gaysop Cock is deep in any way and not infantile teeny bopper-hop for plebes like him6/10 haven't laughed this hard in a while
>>33525408>so why do we never see any three-6 or project pat threadsbut we dojust b/c ur not seeing them doesn't mean they don't exist
>>33525408oh come onthats such a fucking stupid exaggeration either way why does it matter? they get plenty of discussion and i'm pretty sure more people know about three 6 mafia than they do sgp....
/mu/ is pretty consisent in south and backpacker threads, 2 subgenres that dont get a ton of love irl
>>33525423>obviously mad because you got nailed by that comment
>>33525473>replies to him with a variation of "umad"come on man
>>33525446>they get plenty of discussion>>33525391>/mu/ definitely talks about the southI'll take your word for it. I personally haven't seen much of that.
>>33525523whats the meme arrow for
>>33525536the meme arrow? you mean the greentext? just to quote you...
This guy
Lil B rawest rapper alive 2013
>>33525584Michael Buble?
>>33525879ahah I don't even know what made you think about him.Anyway, /mu/ seems to be quite ignorant about hip hop.
>>33525589pls don't include lil bits already general knowledge that lil b transcends god tier rap
>>33526579
This
>>33527817Better than GKMC.
>>33518822objectively, late registration is really better than the college dropout, but there's something about the college dropout that, subjectively, makes it my favorite. either way, they're kanye's 2 best albums imo
>>33525391>/mu/ definitely talks about the southWhy are you lying on the internet?
>>33527848this. i dont know about you, but i never understood what the hype was about. i wouldnt call GKMC a bad album, i just think it's nothing special and the music never does anything exciting
>>33525423>last two years of hip hop>goodYou're one of them I guess
This is a god awful thread
