| >> | No.33272191 In Japan, the most pathetic otaku are those that follow "idols". Idols are attractive girls in their late teens and early 20s who tour around for their fans, posing in different outfits and displaying their talents, just as a beauty pageant contestant would display a talent during the talent round of an American-style beauty pageant. The fans are so pathetic because these otaku have given up on the prospect of ever having a real relationship with a girl. When questioned about if they would like to have sex with their idols, interviewed otaku said no, believing such thoughts to be shameful.
The members of J-Pop girl groups are essentially idols, which is why there was recent controversy when a member of a J-Pop group was caught with a boyfriend. The fans like to imagine members of these groups as impossibly pure, and because of their dedication as fans, they would become jealous at the thought of the girls having any kind of sexual, or even romantic, activity with anyone.
K-Pop is of course heavily influenced by J-Pop, and the members of K-Pop girl groups have the same appeal as Japanese idols.
The fact that western music fans are exclusively interested in the girl groups of K-Pop indicates that these fans have the same kind of mentality as otaku who follow idols. Through my own interactions with K-Pop fans on this board, I know they exhibit the same aversion to sexual thoughts as the otaku.
In other words, you k-pop fans are counterparts to the idol otaku, the most foreveralone subculture widely recognized. |
