I was actually watching Disc 4 of season 6 today, and I realized that was the defining moment of the Simpsons. Whatever the classic era was, it has to include 6 no matter what. That is irrefutably the pinnacle.

I grew up with the Simpsons but haven't watched a classic Simpsons episode since they aired. Never got the DVDs. So I guess it's been about 13 or 14 years since I've sat down and watched the Simpsons.Feels weird.

Are some of you guys just saying Lemon of Troy because it happened to be on TV in the UK last night? I watched it (and it was about the 4th time I'd seen it) and although it is very funny I don't see why everyone can so easily agree it's the best.

Matt Groening's trademark disaffected-genius cynicism permeates everything so they're funny enough, but the engine powering the show was this portrayal of a bald, overweight, slightly dumber than average, but ultimately decent-hearted man struggling to be a good husband in father in an uncaring modern world, and it was really affecting a lot of the time. It was basically just a sitcom with unusually strong characterization and comedic timing.I love the Simpsons. Watched it every night when I was a kid but haven't in years. Season 8 is when the classic period stops for me, and seasons 9-12 were inferior but funny more often than not. After that it died for good.

the simpsons is the finest piece of television ever devised or even conceived and is timeless. it is the only television show i can watch an episode of and then watch that same episode a day later and not change the channel. seasons 4-7 are just fucking masterpieces of satire and conan is a genius. gonna watch some tonight i think
