Dad rock is supposed to be music that dads tell their kids is real music when it holds no relevance today, like Foreigner, Bad Company, and The Guess Who. Bands like Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin are still relevant.

Dad Rock is not synonymous with "pleb music from the 60s and 70s".

I feel ya, man. Katy Lied kind of feels like their peak to me, but Can't Buy... is probably my 2nd favourite. Those two are certainly their most consistent as far as I'm concerned. Aja has some fantastic tracks (title track, Deacon Blues, Home at Last) but I find it to be weaker overall. Pretzel Logic also comes off as somewhat inconsistent, and I never really got into The Royal Scam much.

I think Countdown is their best. I mean, I love all their albums, but CtE just takes the cake for me. dat Razor Boy, dat King of the World, dat Boston Rag, dat everything. Sadly it's also the only pre-long as fuck pause Dan album I don't own on vinyl.
