ITT: Patrician dadrock albums
>>31893773>not london callingshiggy
>>31893773Id have gone with London Calling myself.
is there a strict definition of dadrock?
>>31893880That too
>>31893925Its supposed to be what dads listen to and then tell kids that its "real music"
durr
>>31893683>not thisGranted, PG is still godtier, but this is the epitome of amazing dadrock.
God tier
>>31893988tried liking this like 10 times. what's the appeal?
>>31894015it is too bluesy to be amazing.PG is experimental and more avantgarde
>>31894038muh influence
>>31894015>a bunch of blues cover songs and rip-offs>epitome of amazing dadrockmore like epitome of shit tier dadrock.
>>31894063aren't you too young to be posting on 4chan?
Patrician momrock album
>>31894038a milestone in people liking fashionable art shitmusic and making fun of people who don't.
>patrician>dadrocklol.
>>31894088crime of the century is better
>>31894038it's overrated shit
>>31894063>too bluesy to be amazingdo shut up
>tfw wife is expectingit's dadcore now
>>31894099almost every genre has patrician stuff in it
>>31894036But that's their worst album. Quadrophenia is the correct choice.
>>31894157dat filenameno it's not. it's shit.
>>31894149if you're a hipster dickhead it is.
>>31894080Sleater-Kinney sucks
>>31894029Only correct answer so far.>>31893925Strange Days > s/t>>31893683The only good Led Zeppelin album is IV.My submission.
>>31893925Basically what was the equivalent of p4k-core 30-50 years ago.
>>31894149>Worst album>Not My Generation>Not A Quick One>Not Face Dances>Not It's Hard
>>31894181>Implying March of the Black Queen isn't so overstated that it actually works
>>31894195>not knowing the difference between hipsters and mods
>>31894149>Who's next>worst album
>>31894149>Who's Next>WorstI haven't listened to Quadrophenia, but The Who would have to be the most monumental group in the history of rock and roll for Who's Next to be their disappointment.
>>31894204Beggars Banquet is the best Stones album.
>>31894143"dadrock" or "classic rock" is by definition a mass culture phenomenon as evidenced by the galling entry level of all posted albums ITT.
>>31894214But L.A. Woman is better...
>>31894245Who's Next is obviously not their worst (probably It's Hard takes that award, and even that had 3 good tracks) but Quadrophenia does blow Who's Next out of the water
>>31894225>2013>mod
>>31894063>too bluesy to be amazingTell us more about your patrician tastes.
Revolver
>>31893880this album is more consistent, London Calling has a lot of trash on it
>>31894281Whoops, meant to respond to >>31894204
>>31894051>>31894258Oi, who wants to down some blues and a Quadrophenia listen-along for the plebs who still haven't listened all the way through?
>>31894245>>31894214A Quick One contains one of the best mini operas in my opinion, which led to Tommy and then Quadrophenia. The Who Sell Out is also a great album. Compare all those albums to Who's Next.
>>31894214>Not Endless Wire
>>31894255>Not Let it Bleed
>>31894295This is a dadrock thread.
>>31894378>Dads>not liking fleetwood mac
>>31893988>shitposting with this album>not posting the true masterpiecewhy is this board so pleb when it comes to VU?
>>31894371Mike Post Theme alone redeems Endless Wire.
>>31894425pretty sure that's momrock
>>31894447by that logic Eminence Front redeems It's Hard.No fucking way.
>>31894436Sister Ray is the only good thing about that album.
this one for sure
>>31894425Your dad must be a faggot.
>>31894488>he doesn't know the title cut is superior
>>31894514filename lol
>>31894514>dat filename>>31894523>>>/b/
>>31894488>not appreciating The Gift or Lady Godiva's Operation as masterful forays into experimental weirdness>not understanding VU's deconstruction of blues and americana rock with the title track and I Heard Her Call My Name>not realizing this album is the true defining moment in 60's avant-rock because it took everything VU&N did and perfected it
>>31894514Justice - Cross.jpg
>>31894488thats your opinion, i liked all of it
>>31894571>using "dat">unironically directing people to /b/>>>/hm/
>>31894523My dad is dad is dead you piece of shit.
Yes - FragileSteely DanMoody Blues
>>31894136>/mu/>breedingwhat the fuck is wrong with the world these days
>>31894624Your dad must have been a faggot.
>>31894629>Fragile>not CTtE
how come so few people on /mu/ know of any remotely obscure hard rockthere's some good stuff
For anyone interested, going to do a quadrophenia listen-along starting in 10 minutes:>synch>tube>/r/ZGKR#
>>31894662>not The Yes Album
>tfw Deacon Blues
>>31894645>jelly someone had sexgo start a "tfw no gf" thread
>>31894707>they got a name for the winners in the world>i want a name when i lose>they call Alabama the crimson state>call me deacon blues
>>31894029
>>31894755Crimson Tide, not crimson state.
>>31894707i liked can't buy a thrill more
>>31894775>tfw get lyrics wrong
>>31894707>>31894809superior album coming through
Dad rock is supposed to be music that dads tell their kids is real music when it holds no relevance today, like Foreigner, Bad Company, and The Guess Who. Bands like Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin are still relevant.Dad Rock is not synonymous with "pleb music from the 60s and 70s".
>>31894136Congratulations
>>31894889That's not how the term is used, though.
>>31894889could you be any more wrong?
>>31894940I was going to post this but I didn't know if dads were into it.>>31894889This guy is the shit. I like you, anon.
>>31894204>TVU&N>Not patrician
>>31894889How is Bad Company irrelevant in today's world?
>>31895019they were pretty irrelevant in the 70s as well
>>31894707ultimate feels.>>31894809>>31894865>not Katy Lied
>>31895049Irrelevant as in not highly popular? Their music is pretty simple.
>>31893925its what the local classic rock station would play.so Nirvana and older RHCP might as well count at this point.
>>31895108Not where I live. They won't touch anything influenced by punk except for early U2 and The Police for some reason.
Pitchfork called Wilco's Sky Blue Sky "dad rock" in their review of it. That's an official music publication using the term dad rock. What the fuck is dad rock?
>>31895183I would post that pasta about calling someone's authenticity into question right now if I had it...
>>31895072While I like almost all of Steely Dan's work, a lot of it can sound almost 'too perfect', and the reason Can't Buy a Thrill is my favorite album is because it sounds 'rougher' in a way than some of their other albums, if that makes any sense.
>>31895334I feel ya, man. Katy Lied kind of feels like their peak to me, but Can't Buy... is probably my 2nd favourite. Those two are certainly their most consistent as far as I'm concerned. Aja has some fantastic tracks (title track, Deacon Blues, Home at Last) but I find it to be weaker overall. Pretzel Logic also comes off as somewhat inconsistent, and I never really got into The Royal Scam much.
>>31895108>listening to the classic rock station>they start playing Scar Tissue>switch to the regular rock station that plays like nothing but ACDC and Foo Fighters>they're also playing Scar Tissue>switch to the alt-rock station that plays INDEH rock stuff>they're also playing Scar Tissue>switch to CBC Radio 3>they're playing Under the Bridge
>>31894889Correct.>>31894957>>31894973Stupid faggots who need to die.
>>31895405What do you think of Becker and Fagen's solo work?
Any 70's Rush album with the exception of their first album deserve to be in this thread.I also really enjoy Grace Under Pressure.
This.
>tfw "Doctor Wu" has one of the best choruses of any rock song ever written and they only sing it twice
ITT: albums that aren't by The Beatles, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin but came out during the same time period.
>>31895522s/t > Fly By Nightthe only redeeming part of Fly By Night is By-Tor
I don't know if this counts. I don't usually come on /mu/.
>>31895609>>31893683
>>31895476Only really listened to The Nightfly, which I think is excellent. Heard bits and pieces of Kamirikaad(?), sounded good from what I heard. Not too keen on Sunken Condos, a little too smooth for me.>>31895595CLT confirmed for knowing what's up.
>>31895620First album is good, but it just sounds like Led Zeppelin.Fly By Night also has Anthem, Beneath Between and Behind, and Rivendell. Also, another contribution.
>>31894889Oh god, foreigner is terrible.
Does this count?
>inb4 generic shit
>>31895765I met the guitarist of Foreinger in an airport when I was in like Grade 7 or 8.He saw me reading a guitar mag and said hi.We breifly talked about guitar, but I still wasnt sure who he was.He said they were on tour with Journey, and then I got all excited and asked him questions about it. I still though he was like a roadie or something. He gave me a pick with a the band name on it.like 4 hours later in the middle of the place ride I suddenly realized it was the JUKE BOX HERE, STARS IN HIS EYEYEYEYES guy.
>>31895702have you listened to any of Becker's stuff?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4TbTg8xhP8
>>31895835I love Boston.
this. there are many patrician prog albums
My favorite Zeppelin album.
what do you guys think of this album?
>>31895915Who doesn't? I wonder if people hated them like Nickelback is hated today and if one day Nickelback will be the new Boston?
>>31895873Not him but fuck I love Walter Becker. Circus Money is good but I absolutely love 11 Tracks of Whack.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmauYERLTgo
>>31895835
>>31895995i think Nickelback is destined to end up on the same tier as Poison.
>>31895995I don't think so, at least I hope not. SRV is groovy, too bad the only song my father ever played was "Willie The Wimp".
>steely dan, steely dan everywhere>no one mentions countdown to ecstacy;_;
>>31896045That makes more sense.
>>31893683But that's their worst album after Presence.
>>31896108I was going to post that, but I wasn't sure if it fit into the "Patrician" category. Sage for non-contribution.
>>31896081I was comparing Boston to Nickelback, not SRV to Nickelback.
>>31896093>>31895405 hereCompletely forgot to mention it; I think it's fantastic, probably on par with the debut. Gaucho I'm still somewhat unfamiliar with, the title track and Babylon Sisters are good though.>>31895873Not until now, that track was alright, still a little too smooth for me.>>31896010is better
>>31896154But Presence was a good album. You've mistaking it for In Through the Out Door. Glad I've corrected your error of judgement.
>>31896156The second sentence about SRV was intended to be separate from the first sentence, which addressed the Boston question.
this is quality mom-pop
>>31896222I see now.
>>31896154But Presence is a good album. You must mean In Through the Out Door.
>>31896195I think Countdown is their best. I mean, I love all their albums, but CtE just takes the cake for me. dat Razor Boy, dat King of the World, dat Boston Rag, dat everything. Sadly it's also the only pre-long as fuck pause Dan album I don't own on vinyl.
>>31896322>tfw your dad owned all of the Dan's stuff on LP but some dude sat on them at a party and ruined themyeah, Countdown honestly has some of their goat tracks; King of the World, Razor Boy, Bodhisattva, My Old School, Pearl of the Quarter etc etc etc
>>31896093That's my favourite album ever.
>>31896375>sitting on LPsfuck 6/10 raged at the mere thought. that's about as sad as when my mother explained all her old records had been thrown out by her parents during her moving out because they disapproved of what she listened to.
>>31894682Good album but I don't like the singing.>>31896094All of Black Sabbath first four albums are patrician to me.
>My Aim Is True
>>31896469Ha, my dad's dad disapproved of a lot of my dad's stuff (Beefheart, Zappa, Joy Division, Talking Heads, basically /mu/core as fuck) but luckily he never threw any of it out.>>31896832I'd say their first six, although I don't really consider Sabbath to be dadrock
>>31896887After Vol 4 they start to get a little less iconic.
>>31897017I'd argue SBS is as iconic as what came before, at least in the sense that I've always considered the title track and A National Acrobat to be counted alongside their other "hits". Sabotage certainly less so, I suppose it's just dear to me since it was the first record of their I ever bought and really delved into
>>31894136gratz dude
>>31897123Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is definitely my favourite Black Sabbath album. A National Acrobat and Spiral Architect are so groovy.
>>31894295>Not listenin' to Al GreenAnd also, this is crap. You sould just leave
>>31897763i meant peter green
>>31895978I'm A Man's got one of the grooviest bass lines I've ever heard.>mfw the first time I heard it
>>31895919Mine too, Mine too. God its so good
All of you are wrong and I am right.
>>31900044Duane Allman and SRV. Too soon.
Whet if my dad never listened to rock? My dad grew up listening Indian classical and bollywood pop songs
>>31900065:'(
>>31895835this was their debut, and it was fucking perfect. i don't care who calls it generic dadrock, i will always love this album
>>31895792dads dont like this, mostly weird old guys and tryhard teenagers. it's still a great album though.
>>31900152I think if you're the person that created the mold that others use to build stuff, then people can't call it generic. More like creative and innovative. Old? Yeah, but new to some.
>>31895735Best Springsteen album right there.
>>31895915>>31895995>tfw Boston was the first rock band I ever saw in concert>tfw I still think their s/t kicks ass and the next two are pretty good too
My dad only listens to punk and pop punk
>tfw my dad only listens to modern country pop
>>31895835I'll bet your dad has such shitty taste that he likes Kansas and Journey, tooholy fuck
>>31894136Please raise him to be an elitist patrician.>tfw nobody's posted this yet
>>31900395ME FUCKING TOO MAN.I was in like the 4th grade. First favorite band ever. I don't know who you are but I know you're a great person
>5 million shitposts>not even a mention of this godPerhaps he's too good for you people..
>>31902161Somebody did post that but it's good enough to be posted twice imo. Also, any King Crimson album before and including Discipline.
>>31894436That is indeed the best VU album and it's not by any means a dadrock album
>>31894488
>>31894514>Glam rock>patricianpick one
>>31902415Oh, didn't notice when I first went through. Yeah, it shouldn't be posted twice.
This?
>all this plebshit
>Not knowing the pinnacle of patrician dadrock
this here, its unfortunate everything they made afterward was complete shit and progressively got worse
Itt: 😼 😼 😼
No Bob Fripp yet?
>>31902713>implying thats not just a daryll hall/peter gabriel album with fripp on guitar
>>31902732>implying Peter Hammill wasn't the glue that holds the album togethe>implying Eno wasn't involved>implying you're greasier than zubin mehta
This. Also, any of the first 4 Byrds albums. Especially 5D.
>>31902523>steely dan everywhere >pleb shit only a fool would say that
>>31895735my nigga, finally another springsteen fan
Mine and dad's favourite Zep album
