>tfw out of no where it boosts up to a really high pitch
>tfw if it ever got to the point where you could hear it over music you'd kill yourself.

Why me /mu/, why me. I really don't know what I would do if it ever progresses enough to the point where I hear it over music. It would ruin it for me ;_______;

Any /mu/tants suffer from this? Vent out.

Isn't that what some doctors/terapists recomend to "cure" tinnitus? Apperently you get so used to it you don't notice it anymore.

I'm scared I might actually start noticing MORE if I do this.

>> No.29061311

I have tinnitus and hyperacusis. The tinnitus still really pisses me off and causes pretty severe anxiety, especially at night.

To be honest the hyperacusis is even worse, though, because I can't listen to music even moderately loud without it seeming painful, and I can't really go to concerts.

I was kind of surprised when I went to the doctor and he said my hearing was perfect.

Ive had this for years. My variant is like a more high-pitched noise than the humming from old crt tvs. I've learned to cope with it, but unfortunatly it interferes with the audiospectrum where most speech is heard. Sometimes I have to ask people to repeat what they have said.
Dont listen to music loudly with headphones for prolonged periods of time either. It` s just as bad for your hearing as shooting without protection.

My dad has probably the worst kind of tinitus there is. He describes it as a really low roaring sound. He cant listen to his old 70s rock albums without turning the bass almost off. To boot the muscles in his hands are degenerating. He used to be a big studiomusician here in Norway too.

Apperently being in constant exposure to a replica of your tinnitus for prolonged periods of time make it second nature so you don't notice it anymore, kind of like you can zone out other people talking and focus on one person in a noisy room.

From what I heard you're suppose to sleep with the noise every night for idk how long.

Yo guys

Is it possible to get tinnitus like 2 days or so after you went to a gig?

I went to a Bullet gig on Sunday and Tuesday while I was reading in my bed my right ear suddenly went ROOOOOAAAAR on top of the normal ringing days after a gig. I still hear this shit when it's really quiet ;_;

You most likely always had it, but you never noticed it until that night. I never thought I had tinnitus after I listened to some noisy screamo album way too loud and my ears were ringing after it, but it eventually went away (or so I thought) but I coincidentally read something about tinnitus and was glad I didn't have it, untill I actually noticed that I did.

Those short 'loud episodes' happen to me sometimes too, the ringing gets WAY too noticeable for like 5 seconds and then it goes to normal.

tl;dr
ONE OF US, ONE OF US.

Two days? 50:50. If it doesn't go away after a week it's usually permanent. You'll learn to live with it, eventually. I've had it since I was like 5 years old. Doesn't really bother otherwise, but I can't spend time in extremely quiet places. I always ahve to leave for an example my desktop on for every night.

well smell at least has a few practical applications

taste has ZERO.

you can smell a fire, you can find mold, smell a carcass, some harmful toxins, etc.

Taste doesn't really do anything for you, in fact, it's kind of inhibiting since good foods generally taste bad and bad foods usually taste good.

extremely basic and useful sense, would probably kill myself if i find myself without it unless i'm over 65 and i'm living fine doing nothing.

>touch
imagine exercising without this sense. you could be fucking yourself up completely and not even knowing it

>hearing
come on this is a music board. not to mention it would cripple your basic communication ability

>smell
it's okay i guess. not much of a trade off for losing it and not much of a trade off for losing it

>6th sense
same as above

>taste
you might not be able to taste your favorite foods anymore, but that means you can eat disgusting tier healthy food without it bothering you as much. you can walk around eating raw spinach and nutrient shakes like a patrish

How at risk am I? My hearing is great currently and I haven't been to many concerts.

>I doubt you'll get tinnitus after one concert
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking

I've been to like, four proper shows. Only two were in small venues where hearing damage is a possible issue so I'm fine in terms of hearing now.

I'm thinking if I'm not in a risky position hearing-wise then not using earplugs to get the full "Swans experience" wouldn't be too bad.
