The remasters are on CD are OK mostly. The album Sleep Dirt was ruined with the remaster though, so get that one on vinyl.

Oh, and don't forget to get Hot Rats and Weasels Ripped My Flesh.

>>27785725
hmmm.
Hots Rats is different from most of his work, inn that it seems like a straight album without much of the Zappa-isms.

If you're into the jazzy stuff, check out The Grand Wazoo and Waka/Jawaka
I'd also check out Uncle Meat for the instrumentals on there.

also, Roxy & Elsewhere because why the fuck not?

>> No.27785855

that's one of my favorite albums. some others i'd recommend are:

Uncle Meat
Lumpy Gravy
The Yellow Shark
Weasels Ripped My Flesh
Hot Rats

I think Zappa is one of those guys who was able to make so many albums in which different people like certain albums. That's a true artist right there. There's no DEFINITIVE album.

You know what's great?

Earthbound, the SNES game..
And Freak Out! playing in the background.

They work so well together. I recommend it for everyone.

>> No.27785914

>>27785844
+1 for Roxy & Elsewhere. It's probably his best live album together with You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore Vol. 2.

Little bit of trivia:

"The" Terry Gilliam (Of Monty Python fame) worked as auxiliary on Freak Out!

And, Frank noted Karlheinz Stockhausen as inspiration in the centerfold.
Karlheinz is credited as being the grandfather of electronica.

>> No.27786336

apparently Gilliam's Brazil was Zappa's favorite film.

Try more Zappa albums if you don't like Freak Out, his style varies heavily throughout his career.
