I actually really enjoy Strawberry Jam. It was a happy medium where they weren't to a ridiculous amount of sampling like on MPP, but were getting into it.

HCTI is my personal favorite. I can think of a few reasons why Manatee is looked down upon with their fans, one being the fact that penguin penguin and similar tracks with headphones is not a pleasant experience.
On vinyl its a completely different record though, it just fills the atmosphere.

I respectfully disagree. I think the album has value, but there's a certain atmosphere missing, a certain texture stripped from their sound, and its most evident to me on tracks like Reverend Green. The album is still good and has plenty of value, but in relation to its predecessors it can sound trite or even gimmicky at times.

I remember reading an interview where one of the band members said the album was meant to sound like the little blobs of jelly that come out of the little packets, synthetic and shimmering. that's a paraphrase. i think they did accomplish that, but to me the album sounds too much like Brian Wilson trying to be Syd Barrett, whereas MPP is more Brian Wilson proper.
