No, the ones you never hear about like Zhang Liyin or Isak N Jiyeon are the failures. f(x) might be their biggest success-failure though. Group is stable, they have members branching out into multi-talents and building a known personality (Krystal, Sulli, Victoria), but it's like you say, they're still not a famous SM megaband.
I think it's weird because they clearly meant for f(x) to be an international band with only TWO members being full Korean, but they've never acted on it. Other than letting Victoria very recently dip her toe into China. It's like they had these grand plans for a band as a sort of advanced guard of a new Kpop era with a more global focus and experimental styles, but then they IMMEDIATELY got cold feet and started treating them like an awkward normal Korean band with all the weaknesses of their previous plan and none of its strengths. I have no idea why.
