I struggled for a while to decide which was my favorite coltrane album. i was into ascensions for a bit, i was into a love supreme for a while, blue train is hard not to love but this one just gets me everytie. from start to finish i can't stop tapping along. im basicallly sezing to how goddamn good this album is.it may or may not be my #1 album but it is definitely my desert island album . this album takes me to another wolrd. even greensleeves is reinvigorated. it has the raw energy that i feel like even teenagers could appreciate

I read something about this too pretty recently. It was something about Coltrane playing like 20 minute solos for a single live tune. He then began a process of de-cluttering his solos and I believe by the village vanguard recordings of 1961 they were generally cut to less than half that.
