Punch 'em in his shit again
March 13th - Robbie Basho - Visions of the Country - I really, REALLY like this one. Having already heard Venus in Cancer, I was expecting some folky, kinda baroque acoustic music with some avant-garde influences. This is so much more. One of the most stunning things about this album (and that's saying quite a bit) is how skilled Basho is at guitar. I don't know if he's plucking all those strings at once, but if he is, hot damn, 'cus he is tearing that shit up. And he is a fucking great composer. The arrangements here are some of the most interesting I'd heard. I was a bit bummed when this thing was over, because I just wanted more of that Basho magic. Of course, another important part of Basho's music is his voice. He's go a fucking bangin' vibrato, and he is perfectly suited to the music here. One of my many favorite things about this album is the atmosphere it creates. It really feels like a little journey through the more wild and untamed areas of America (I'm assuming it's America). The title could not be more apt.
Long story short, I don't think I have any problems with this one. In fact, there really isn't a single moment that doesn't have me in awe of it's beauty, or completely wrapped up in the world it creates. I don't know if I'm going overboard on the rating here, but I reallly don't care. 10/10.
Goddamnit, can't fit in the saturday one. Hold on.
