Some updates:
Kaddish by Towering Inferno is meh.
Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill by Grouper has a beautiful, dreamy, yet melancholic atmosphere. Liz Harris can do a surprising amount with nothing but guitar and voice and this album is perfect for putting on when you're about to sleep. Sadly, a pretty major downside is that everything does kinda sound the same due to a lack of instrumental and dynamic variety, which prevents me from giving it a high score. In the right mood this is fantastic though. 7/10
Derbe, Respect Alder by Faust & Dälek is pretty damn great, it fuses the noisy, assaulting hiphop of Dälek with the krauty jamming of Faust and while in theory hiphop + experimental rock isn't a very hot combination, these guys have what it takes to pull it off. Some tracks sound kind of uninspired, but with the thick, groovy basslines and great live drumming supporting the aggressive noise-hop of Dälek there's still plenty on here to enjoy. I'd say it's more of an album for Dälek fans than Faust fans in the end because most of the songs are structured more like Dälek tracks and the rapping might scare some Faust fans away if they're not into that, whereas those who dig Dälek will only find the tracks to be a little longer than usual (although Dälek aren't known for their short songs either) and with more live instrumentation and an overall jammier feel to it. This album isn't as good as Dälek's best works imo (Absence and From Filthy Tongue), but definitely worth checking out either way. 7.5/10
Amanita by Bardo Pond (oh yeah, bonus albums, right) is up my alley with its shoegazey psych jams. There's still a lot of actual songs going on here rather than a collection of jams and nothing else, which is also cool. Nevertheless, I don't feel like I'm quite as amazed as I could be, but I can't really tell you what it is that prevents me from wholeheartedly loving it. Still though, great album. 7.5/10
