When I listened to this album I really enjoyed it. Then I looked up how others felt about it and found that many people disliked it for being "Pretentious." I realized that most of my favourite bands are "pretentious" (Xiu Xiu, Death Grips, the list goes on) and that pretense usually makes an album much more interesting to listen to. So I would like to know what exactly is wrong with pretense in music? Is it that fans feel "betrayed" or "gimmicked"?
