I'm the perfect blend of busy, lazy and unmotivated to make finishing regimented charts near-impossible so I may as well just do relaxed genre charts. This month I'll the taking the opportunity to get more into punk and some of it's more obvious sub genres (largely ignoring post-punk/art punk which I'm already fairly into).
Today's album was Jay Reatard's Blood Visions. This is a solid punk record with a brash garage-y sound. The tracks are incredibly short, energetic and get their points across simply and effectively. Jay is a charismatic frontman with varied compelling delivery style even having some interesting forays into melody on this record. However there are some weak moments on here and it is overall brought down by how short and underdeveloped some of the tracks are, as well as the fact some of the bare bones chugging riffs feel disjointed. I wish more of it was like the closer.
