Album ratings are the most vacuous form of music criticism. This applies for tons of RYM users but also tons of /mu/ users.

What matters is a review, not a rating.

Let's get some definitions about "being patrician" clarified. I feel too many people on this board misinterpret what being patrician means.

Being patrician IS:

- A HABIT that tends towards music which is well thought out, structured, and composed.
- A LIFESTYLE that promotes artists based on their MERIT.
-A CONDEMNING of artists who resort to lazy composition or structure.

Being patrician IS NOT:

- A HABIT of listening to obscure music
- A LIFESTYLE that promotes artists based on their obscurity.
- A CONDEMNING of artists based on their popularity.

Examples:

Patrician opinions (subjective)
>My favorite band is King Crimson; largely, for their quasi-symphonic structures and sophisticated harmonies.
>Weezer makes lazy, boring music and emotional lyrics.

NOT-Patrician opinions
>Radiohead are shit.
>All of /mu/core sucks.
>Any bedroom producer can do what Aphex Twin does better than he does.

Makes sense? I think it does.

Why are there so many trips here who think that they have good taste by droning on the opinions of reviewers, or the same few bands, or simply by their name?

Why is elitism looked down upon? Elitism is an encouragement for taste and knowledge. Elitism is the promotion of art over the visceral. Elitism, in short, is the promotion of good discussion on /mu/.

Those of you who deny this are part of the problem: you are allied with the waifufags, with the Kpop-fags, with all those people here who wish nothing else but to make this board anti-art and anti-intellectual.

So why is Holland 1945 considered the best song from this album? It's nice, but THBP2 and Ghost are more dynamic songs.

Patrician:
A person who listens primarily to art-music, but also appreciates other genres (even if they are not the focus).

Plebian:
A person who listens to little if any art-music.
