>Ride - Going Dank Again
With the exception of a couple of moments scattered throughout this album, Ride cut out on the fuzz and the reverb in favor of a more radio-ready and sunny pop sound. Now with most shoegaze bands this would sound like a terrible idea but, below the surface, Ride have always been a great radio rock (proto-britpop? idk) band and this album's cleaner sound helps them showcase their songwriting talent. This album's packed with hooks, guitar riffs and tighter-than-a-scenegirl's-jeans drumming and - most importantly - well-crafted songs.
Not everything here is exactly amazing but nothing here slips below the 7/10 mark and songs like Leave Them All Behind, Mouse Trap and Cool Your Boots give the best tracks off Nowhere a run for their money.
7.5/10 for now, this is probably gonna be one of my summer jams this year
