Why is this album so universally liked?

The production is decent but nothing earth shattering, in fact the album feels really over the top to me. There's really nothing spectacular here, it's a pop album and it doesn't really feel challenging or innovative.

The mastering is piss poor. The clipping on this is atrocious.

Lyrically, Kanye West is pretty poor. He's not good with words and he doesn't have anything interesting to say. I've heard some people talk about how amazing of a character study this is, but all I hear is a megalomaniac and narcissist who is occasionally self aware that he can be a polarizing asshole. I don't see anything particularly insightful in his lyrics, and I feel like there's far too much emphasis on his relationship with the media and with celebrity culture. I'm not sure why either of these topics are interesting to anyone.

I've seen people praise his artistic direction in music videos like Monster or Runaway, but I can't help but feel that they're very cliche and mundane.

When you hear him speak, it's quite obvious that he has a very poor grasp of politics and the world around him. Any vaguely political messages in Kanye's music are usually naive, overly simple or very short sighted.

What am I missing? I fail to see how Kanye West is a genius, and I can't understand the massive and universal critical acclaim MBDTF got. It's not terrible, but I have a hard time giving it any more than 7/10.

Why is Kanye regarded as a GOAT-tier producer when he has to bring on more producers for an album than there are tracks? MBDTF had 15 producers for 13 tracks; Yeezus had at least 25 producers over the course of ten songs, and is described by Kanye as being his most stripped-down album. Why does Kanye get the sole production credit?

True, but these are almost never his most acclaimed production credits. Graduation, Late Registration only had a handful each. Granted, College Dropout was produced almost entirely by Kanye, but this album falls short on those considered his production greats. Anyone care to shed any light on this? I have no doubt Kanye will go into hip hop history as one of the great producers, but it's really undeserved.
