Today, I listened to The Electrifying Eddie Harris.
And I'm afraid I wasn't that electrified.
What we have here is a very nice, well played, pleasent collection of track, but the main thing I can say about it all is that everything here feels very conventional. Nothing here really shows any specific ambition, and risk, any kind of memorable element. certainly, all of it is nice to hear, some of it is even well composed and played, but overall this is nothing more than just easy-listening jazz with every track having its novelty mood (which doesn't necessarly make them bad, if anything it works very well on Judie's Theme for instance).
It is good at what it tries to do, the problem is that it really doesn't try so much. Too bad because Harris knows how to do his thing.
I'll dig furether into his stuff. Who knows.
