kind of agree with what you're saying in substance but don't agree with your interpretation as far as the value-judgment..
very few people know how to handle themselves all the time without help, especially in a dynamic unpredictable job like the entertainment industry where every day is different
i think their management / corporate support just frees them to do their best as performers, rather than have to worry about all the PR shit all the time; they have someone taking care of their logistics and their nitty-gritty so they're free to be themselves, instead of always worrying about how to triangulate an image to cater to public expectations
they're actually more free because someone is protecting them from walking off in the wrong direction IMHO. when i have kids i hope i can do that for them while they are young too, so they don't fall in a ditch from their ignorance...
