I have been somewhat forced to listen to quite a lot of bluegrass over the course of my life, and what it seems to me is that very few people are making any new bluegrass. In my experience, a good majority of bluegrass bands play only covers, and it's usually the same covers (Foggy Mountain Breakdown, old joe clark, etc.). There is very little variance in the genre, despite having some very talented musicians.

A friend of mine is really into electronic music, but the line he draws between what he likes and doesn't like is super vague (wompy shit, but he sometimes listens to wompy shit) and if you like something he doesn't he tries to make you feel really bad about liking what he doesn't like.

I went through a lot of unfortunate phases between 14-17 because I was an impressionable little bitch and listened to what my friends liked.

14 - Radio hip hop, obscure bands from other countries, ska-punk
15/16 - Hard/Butt/progressive rock, musicals
17 - Jazz, ska-punk

I refused to listen to anything electronic or even used a synthesizer because it "wasn't real music"

Hey there /mu/. I've decided I'm going to learn a stringed instrument. I've been playing around with the idea of the banjo. Any suggestions for someone new to this family of instruments? I only play the piano and I do that relatively badly.
