Why is music becoming something that can be considered a hobby even if you don't have genuine passion for it? You don't say football is a hobby if you kick a ball around in your backyard every night, you don't say baking is a hobby if you make your shitty lunch every day. Why is passively listening to music enough to be a hobby now?

Has anyone sort of moved on from the album as a format? I'll still listen to an album if I'm digging every song or I want to discuss it, but in the end, I'm more convinced that in pop/rock records the individual songs tend to be more important and easier to discuss. I still have favorite albums, and still have albums that basically require an entire listen because it's like one work (such as Faust). But it's nowhere near as essential as the people on this board make it out to be
