I bring you a truly magnificent piece I've found /mu/, titled simply “The Velvet Underground” by hellotherelittlebug(who is also referred to as, Le Bug), an amazing artist. The bleak and minimalist rendering of the members is reflective of the way the band approached their music. The raw rock-feel that gave birth to the nihilistic punk that dominated the 70s. Three chords strummed endlessly against the screaming of a man most Middle America would consider mad, but at the same time with all it's fervor and half baked composition lies a truly artistic form of expression in an almost animalistic way. The style in which Le Bug chooses to present each member and their name is paramount. First the use of the names may appear as an amateur move to some lesser experienced viewers, but the names are there to drive a point. Warhol focused on making super stars, the Velvet Underground wasn’t just some band, they were characters of the factory. From the way the VU dressed, the glasses they wore, all the way down to the lighting was planned by Warhol, the Velvets were just another pop art piece that culminated in The Exploding Plastic Inevitable. The names present the personal almost egocentric nature people associate with the culture at the time.
