>returning to their post-punk/industrial roots
Yes. Yes. YES! Please god.
Don't get me wrong. I really enjoy the grand, slow moving walls of sound that Gira and the band have been playing with on their last two releases, but god I love the sound of 80's SWANS.
I really enjoyed TBK, but I feel it lost some of its luster to me after repeated listens (and I know what you mean by sounding dry. In fact that was really spot on). That might just be because it demands sitting down and dedicating the time to really listen and get through those 30 minute movements, which isn't bad at all, but since exploring their back-catalog, I just fell in love with the ultra abrasive, punchy, and shorter songs. That's why I really enjoyed what they brought to the table with 'Oxygen'. It felt like he was returning to that sound Swans was known for. The lyrics aren't as dismal and brutal, but the vocal delivery is amazing.
I want to hear Gira getting loud, crazy and aggressive with his vocal performance again. I know he's over 60 now, and that's probably no where near as easy as it used to be for him, but damn I love it.
