Earlier today
The pieces are standard Cage, interesting stuff. I thought Four Walls bore a certain reminiscence to Satie's piano works. Six Melodies is a favourite Cage work of mine, I've heard other recordings of it, but not this one before, very melodic but at the same times very natural, it feels not like the product of human creation but of natural processes, a very beautiful Cage piece. The most recent works on this recording Two^4 and Two^6, written in 91 and 92, respectively I don't much care for them, but I never did much enjoy Cage's late works, still I don't dislike them and they can be an agreeable ambience, if not that exciting to actually listen to. The recording was of very good quality, and the playing was perfectly decent, I've heard recordings of Six Melodies I prefer, but as a complete anthology of piano & voice and piano & violin this is a very good set of recordings.
