I disagree. I think Deerhoof wouldn't have been nearly as good if they didn't have Satomi. I'm not sure if she's the reason for their creativity, but it certainly helps. Apple O' is one of my top 5 albums of all time for exactly the reasons you said it was bad. Sure, they would still be a solid band with a slightly more "perfect" setup, but nowhere near as enjoyable for me and I'm sure for tons of Deerhoof fans.
