>Vivaldi - The Four Seasons
Eh this was just good. I hear 4 or so parts of the piece before so I came in expecting similar stuff. Surprisingly there were a couple of tracks which are much better than the "mainstream" ones like Spring Allegro and Summer Tempo impetuoso d'Estate.
The instrumentation is mostly oriented towards a solo violin but there is a support of an orchestra. The most notable instrument played in the background is the harpsichord that supports the violin most of the time.
My favorite pieces were the second movement on Spring which sounded outright sad to me. The violin was supported by quiet bowed lower string section. It was a slow paced piece that I thoroughly enjoyed.
Summer's Allegro was also a very good slow-paced piece. As expressive as Vivaldi's writing was for the violin, I prefer the slower parts.
Anyway, I liked it so it's a 7. Can't see myself bumping it up. It's a really good performance of the pieces by Fabio Biondi so I recommend this recording.
7/10
