so trying to make music on linux is about like trying to change car oil in the dark

i've tried about four different DAWs (LMMS, Ardour, Rosegarden and Buzztard), all with mixed to bad results
haven't really found anything for decent LADSPA plugins either, and every DAW is weird with VSTs

anyone have any tips/advice or am i pretty much screwed no matter what?
