when they are stacked like that it can cause the records to warp

warped records aren't good

crosleys are bad because you can't adjust the tracking weight on the stylus. i think they also have a built in pre-amp which ain't so good

If the receiver doesn't have a phono input you'll need a pre-amp. If you are in a hurry to get a turntable get a new one with a counterweight, but if you take time to find one used it should be better.
