KEIJI HAINO IS GOD
I Said, This Is the Son of Nihilism
Oh fucking fuck yes what a fantastic album. This is Haino's most praised solo release, it seems, and for good reasons. The first 11 minutes or so are taken up by a brutal noisefest in the vein of Fushitsusha, but this time produced only by Haino's guitar and His demented falsetto. After introducing Himself so violently, Big Man Haino tempers the storm, in the process reminding me of Glenn Branca at his best with pulsating and vibrating guitar. The music calms down even more and lulls the listener, before Haino makes His guitar roar and erupt yet again. From this point on, the album continues in playing with its intensity forever and ever, but amazingly somehow never bores me. One hour feels like 20 minutes, yet simultaneously could last an eternity. What an exceptionally atmospheric and intense listen this one makes. Only Nothing Changes... rivals this for my favourite Haino release thus far. I have 14 more albums to go on this little chart, however, so who knows what might await me next.
9/10
