Bach was a mathematical genious. If I wasn't on my phone I'd link this to the conversation. Has anyone ever sat down and actually analyzed Bachs themes? The fact that he could capture the image of a foreign dance just from hearsay is incredible. He never travelled because he was devoted to the church (shame really), but he composed Italian, Spanish, French, etc, from the comfort of Germany. That's one of hundreds of things. Bach was the one who put music on a roll in actual society with public concerts, instead of music just being religion. Feel free to argue, I'm curious to other opinions.
