When I started listening to music, it was just general pleb shit. I then got into rock, and eventually prog rock. But I soon got tired of these and expanded into classical, jazz, electronic, shoegaze etc. But there was something lacking in modern popular music; a warmth or authenticity. I gave folk a go hoping this might have what I'm looking for, but even that became tired eventually. Today I've pretty much given up on popular music, and listen almost exclusively to traditional and ethnic stuff, as it is the only thing that has a traditional and cultural weight behind it. Modern music just feels too contrived and acontextual.
Has anyone else experienced this, or am I just a hipster cunt?
